North Big Horn Rams stay tough on the mat in Powell

The North Big Horn Rams wrestling club attended the tournament hosted by the Powell Wrestling Club at Powell High School over the weekend. This tournament welcomed wrestlers to participate in all three styles of wrestling: folkstyle, freestyle and greco. 

On the folkstyle side of the tournament, the Rams managed to come in fifth out of 19 teams by scoring 234 points.

Knox Hitz secured first place this weekend in folkstyle after pinning two of his opponents and tech-falling his third in the 6U 45-pound weight division. 

Kali Jameson pinned both opponents in the 8U girls 62-68 division to land her first place.

Havana Martinez pinned her opponent twice, each time under a minute, to take first in the 8U girls 74–85-pound weight division. 

Hadley Henton made a comeback in her round robin to secure first place, winning against her opponent twice in the 10U girls 90-100 division.

Hawk Hecker went undefeated in the 10U 53-pound weight division, going 3-0 to take first place.

Cayden Dickerson secured first place in the 10U 56-pound weight division after pinning two of his opponents and getting a 9-0 major decision over the third.

Alex Mcillwaine beat both of his opponents in the 12U 160+ weight division to take first place, pinning the first and getting an 8-0 major decision over the other.

Vada Schmidt took first place after beating her opponent twice in the 14U 127-143 weight division. 

The other folkstyle results the tournament include:

Second place: Raegan Dickerson, 8U Girls 43-46; Bradley Abraham, 8U 40-43; Anthony Mcillwaine, 8U 85+; Lillyan Hansen, 10U girls 80; Kannon Bassett, 10U 67.

Third place: Cotey Smith, 8U 46-49; Kali Jameson, 8U 70, Hadley Henton, 10U 93; Hayden Harshman, 12U 82-86; Braxton Layne, 12U 108-117; Isabella Martinez, 14U 163.

Fourth place: Brecklyn Whiting, 8U girls 50-55; Jace Jameson, 12U 82-86.

Other participating wrestlers included Roman Martinez, Carter Slater and Koehn Wagner.

The Rams continued the tournament by wrestling freestyle. Overall, the team scored 135 to land them in fourth place. 

Kali Jameson came in first place after beating her opponent twice in the 8U girls 68-74 division.

Cotey Smith beat three of his opponents by tech-fall and pinned the fourth to secure first place in the 8U 49-pound weight division.  

Lillyan Hansen beat her opponent twice by tech-fall in the 10U girls 80-90 division to take first place. 

Hawk Hecker stood on top of the 10U 53-55 bracket after beating three of his opponents by tech-fall and pinning the fourth in a minute twenty-seven second for first place. 

Corbin Henley managed to bounce back from a loss and come in at first place in the 10U 105-113 division.

Second place: Raegan Dickerson, 8U girls 46-54; Havana Martinez, 8U girls 68-74; Bradley Abraham, 8U 43-45; Hadley Henton, 10U girls 80-90; Hayden Harshman, 12U 86; Isabella Martinez; 14U 149; Alex Mcillwaine, 14U 165-167.

Third place: Kali Jameson, 8U 62-64; Havana Martinez, 8U 85; Cayden Dickerson, 10U 59-63; Hadley Henton, 10U 93; Braxton Layne, 12U 108; Isabella Martinez, 14U girls 143-149.

Fourth place: Roman Martinez, 8U 49; Joel Henley, 10U 77; Anthony Mcillwaine, 10U 105-113.

Other participating wrestlers included Carter Slater, Maddox Baxendale, Connor Grant and Kannon Bassett.

On the greco-style side of the tournament, the Rams scored 77.5 points as a team to land them in fourth place overall.

Kali Jameson pinned two of her opponents and beat the third by a 9-5 decision to take first place in the 8U 62-64 division. 

Cayden Dickerson managed to pin all three of his opponents in the 10U 53-56 division to land him in first place.

Second place: Roman Martinez, 8U 43-49; Hawk Hecker, 10U 53-56; Anthony Mcillwaine, 10U 105-113; Alex Mcillwaine, 12U 160.

Third place: Hayden Harshman, 12U 86-92; Braxton Layne, 12U 98-106.

Fourth place: Jace Jameson, 12U 86-92.

This weekend the North Big Horns Rams wrestling club will wrap up their season by attending the WAWA kids/16U/Jr State event held in Casper. The meet will start April 12 and finish the evening of April 14 at the Ford Wyoming Center. The Rams will have a chance to come in at the top of their brackets by facing off against opponents from across the state of Wyoming.
