100 years ago, June 25, 1926

The Cowley Progress

Heavy frosts visited this section Monday and Tuesday nights, doing a vast amount of damage to tomatoes, beans, corn and potatoes. On the Powell flat hundreds of acres of beans were frozen black. The frost is said to have been general throughout the Big Horn Basin.

75 years ago, June 21, 1951

The Lovell Chronicle

Lovell received two druggists last week, both of whom are recent graduates of the College of Pharmacy at the University of Wyoming. At the Lovell Drug company will be Phil Reasch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Reasch of Lovell. He is a graduate of Lovell High School and moved here with Mrs. Reasch, the former Joyce Black of Laramie, last week.

At the Busy Corner Pharmacy is Byron Hipps, who completed the four-year course at Wyoming. He comes from North Carolina.

50 years ago, June 24, 1976

The Lovell Chronicle

A freak accident Monday had everyone at the post office mystified. Mrs. Juanita Martinez parked her car in the Lovell Post Office parking lot, put the transmission in park and pushed down the emergency brake. 

Before she got in the post office, the car took off backwards, hit a concrete parking block, shifted into a forward gear and went over a post office tree up onto a planter. Witnesses shut off the car, which was still in park with the emergency brake on. Damage was minor.

Lovell will be getting a dose of the past this summer as Sharon Wagner and her children, Shannon, 12, and David, 10, and their friend, Brittany Winland, 11, will be running an ice cream wagon. The wagon will run Tuesday through Thursday from afternoon to dusk through the summer until school starts.

The Western Sugar Cooperative will celebrate 100 years of sugar production in Lovell with a special centennial barbecue and program today (Thursday) at Constitution Park. A free barbecue will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. catered by Hawg Heaven.
