The climax of the 1949-50 basketball season the Jaycees will play Olson’s All-American Red Heads Wednesday, April 12, at the Lovell High School gym. The Red Heads are a world famous girls team, who have traveled and appeared in many U.S. and Canadian cities.
They play men’s rules and can boast of winning better than half of their games against the strongest mens teams in the country. Aside from their good ball playing, the Red Heads will offer the crowd a great deal of entertainment that only a girls club can do.

Rupe Kocherhans reaches down and fondles the heifer calf, and continues that he thinks the critter resting in a straw pile beside him can help reduce cost. It’s a Beefalo, the first born in the State of Wyoming, according to Kocherhans, and last week during a howling blizzard the heifer and two bull calves were born on Kocherhans’ and his partner Winn Brown’s ranch southwest of Lovell. While Brown and Kocherhans own part of the 17 heifers bred to pure Beefalo, actual ownership of the first calf born in Wyoming belongs to Lovell banker Jack Pearson.
Kocherhans feels the Beefalo may be the perfect cross to keep red meat on the tables of America. He notes that the cattle market is currently down and that one of the compounding problems is the high price of feed. “There’s something about Beefalo that extracts everything into food value,” Kocherhans said. “It has almost a 4-1 conversion of weight to food intake, while normal for a cow is 10-1.”
