Harrry Rimmer, evangelist, author and lecturer, has announced his intention to head an expedition into the heart of Africa, where he will study the life and habits of the gorilla. This is the first practical demonstration of a fundamentalist minister seeking direct information on the absorbing question first propounded by Darwin in “The Descent of Man.” The expedition will leave New York in June if present plans are not changed.

75 years ago, March 15, 1951

At the Fire District election held last week to vote on the question of excluding the Deaver-Frannie school district from the rural fire district, the vote was almost unanimous for such changes in the boundaries of the district. Deaver-Frannie farmers felt that they would not receive sufficient benefit from the fire district tax, as they have few telephones and are so remote from where the extra fire equipment will be stationed that they would not receive any lower fire insurance rates.

Petting in the hallways by students has apparently been halted, the administrators reported, after the Lovell school board adopted a hands-off-the-opposite-sex policy at its last meeting. Several couples were called into the office to discuss the problem.

Mayor Glen Olsen announced at Monday’s town council meeting that Chief Al Frasier has tendered his resignation effective April 30.

At the regular meeting of the District No. 1 Board of Trustees last Thursday, Superintendent Jim Woodward announced his resignation effective at the end of this school’s contract year.

Lovell Middle School Principal Peggy Smith has resigned her post effective at the end of the current school year.

A Lovell Middle School sixth-grader Amos Monterde and Lovell Elementary School fourth-grader Adnan Khan took first place in the sparring division at the Lonewolf Taekwondo Tournament Saturday in Powell. Monterde also placed first in the forms division. Jenna Bates also took first place in forms.

Saturday, Feb. 27, the Big Horn Martial Arts Academy held a belt promotion test. The Lovell students that participated in the test were Skyler Bates for his yellow stripe, Thane Zollman for his yellow belt, Jenna and Austin Bates for their yellow belt with a green stripe, Kate Gossens for her green belt and Monterde and Khan for their blue belts. Coach Bob Hunt said all the students passed their test for the next belt.
