The new band room at the high school in Byron has been completed and officially moved into by the music department. The ceiling and the walls are soundproofed, and the floor is covered with an interesting pattern in rubber tile. It has two practice rooms and a director’s office also soundproofed. It has an attractive wainscoting of natural birch, and the walls are of cool green. A large cedar-lined closet for the uniforms is an outstanding feature. Mr. Simmons, Mr. Potter and Maurice Jensen designed the room.

Veterans of the armed forces will be the subject of a second large mural to be painted in downtown Lovell this fall as part of an effort to combine a mural, park and museum dedicated to local vaterans. Funds are being raised to purchase the lot west of Valley Flower from Gerald Doerr. The group planning the memorial has secured an option to purchase the property, which should be accomplished this summer. The goal is to begin landscaping this summer and to see the mural painted this fall.
Artist Harry Engstrom, who painted the spectacular Bighorn Canyon mural at Main and Nevada, has been contacted about painting the veterans mural and has agreed to take on the project.

The precipitous downturn in the U.S. oil and gas industry has led to the planned closure of one of the Lovell area’s three bentonite plants. Wyo-Ben, Inc., on Tuesday announced “a revision to plant operations in Wyoming designed to enhance production capabilities at our plants located in Greybull and Thermopolis” while at the same time proceeding with a plan to “gradually step down production at our Sage Creek plant in Lovell and eventually place it into a hibernation state.” (The plant never did close and is operating today.)
