The Cowley Progress
Cowley has another lawyer. He arrived from the spirit world on Tuesday morning at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Woodruff Gwynn. Woodruff says he is a regular fellow and is mighty proud of his new son and heir. All doing very nicely. The Progress extends its hearty congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Gwynn on the arrival of their firstborn.

The Lovell Chronicle
Waldo Jensen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Jensen, will be valedictorian of the Byron High School 1949 graduating class. Judy Pryde, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Pryde, will be salutatorian. Waldo and Judy will receive the University of Wyoming four-year scholarships.

Hospital room charges at North Big Horn Hospital are going up from $26 to $36 per day. Basically the increase was brought about by the increase in minimum wages and inflation, hospital administrator Dee Cozzens said, but is compounded by low occupancy levels at the hospital, a building that is 17 years old and is in constant need of repair, and a lack of doctors in the community.

Nearly 80 pigs were destroyed in a fire at the Roy Parker pig farm near Cowley last Wednesday evening. The Lovell Volunteer Firemen responded to a call at 5:32 p.m. to a fire at Parker’s farm on Lane 9. The fire, according to the report, was started around a coal stove with the wind blowing. Parker attempted to put the fire out with his garden hose, but the fire burned up his pump and the fire department was called. Eight sows and 70 weaner pigs were lost in the fire, along with the barn and some equipment.
