Police report: Juvenile 911 caller simply had a flat bicycle tire

The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of April 6-12:

April 6: 7:38 a.m. – A caller reported an apparently intoxicated subject “falling over” at a local restaurant. The subject’s vehicle was gone when an officer responded, and the officer went to the person’s apartment, but knocks at the door were not answered.

4:12 p.m. – A 911 call came in from a juvenile at Armory Park, who hung up when the department answered the call. An officer responded to the park and made contact with two boys. The 911 caller said he was upset because he had a flat tire on his bike and couldn’t get home.

 April 7: 8:09 a.m. – An officer investigated a call regarding illegal items dumped at the vegetative waste site on the north side of town. Someone had dumped wood planks with nails. The person was identified, and an officer made contact to explain that the site is for tree and plant material only.

7:30 p.m. – Following a REDDI report of a red truck “swerving all over the road” and heading into Lovell, an officer spotted the vehicle and followed it but could observe no incorrect driving behavior.

April 8: 10:28 a.m. – A caller stated that dogs were killing cats next door to her on Great Western Avenue. The caller was worried about the dogs being aggressive and also barking all night. The caller was advised to call again when the activity was taking place.

1:59 p.m. – A woman called to report a scam phone call in which the caller claimed the woman had not paid for a ticket and her driver’s license would be suspended. The woman was given a link to follow on the internet, and she went to the police station, whereupon she and an officer opened the link together. The link brought a chuckle when it produced a request for a fine payment of only $6.99 for an alleged case of speeding 15 miles per hour over the speed limit.

4:07 p.m. – An officer responded to the high school parking lot where a blue Dodge had backed into a vehicle. A juvenile was cited for improper backing and having no insurance.

April 9: 7:45 a.m. – A citizen complained about someone stalking and following him. He was advised to call police at the time the stalking was taking place.

4:05 p.m. – Officers assisted at the scene of a car fire at Bair Trailer Court on West Second. The driver, Charles Sharp, had noticed an oil leak, and when he went inside his house after driving from Powell, the car burst into flames and was consumed by the fire.

4:32 p.m. – An elderly resident at the New Horizons Care Center reported to an officer that his girlfriend in Greybull needed money for gas in the form of gift cards, the girlfriend going by the name of Elizabeth. He didn’t know her last name and was advised to get the person’s full name and date of birth. He had not yet sent any money.

April 10: 1:25 p.m. – An officer could hear no dogs barking in the immediate area after a complaint was called in about barking dogs on Idaho Avenue.

2:50 p.m. – An officer observed a juvenile improperly operating a scooter at Shoshone and East Fifth. The officer informed the juvenile about the new scooter ordinance and that the rider must use hand signals while crossing the street.

3:36 p.m. – An officer responded after a .22 caliber shell casing was found at the Lovell Library.

7:37 p.m. – A female juvenile went to the police station and asked to be taken to the group home in Basin because she didn’t want to be at home anymore. After venting, she decided to return home and said she would call if she needed assistance.

April 11: 5:22 p.m. – An officer checked on a resident at Rose City West after a caller said they hadn’t heard from the resident in days. The officer made contact and advised the man to call the worried friend.

7:45 p.m. – After a call, an officer picked up an Australian Shepherd mix at Armory Park. The owner later paid a fee and retrieved the pet from the animal control shelter.

April 12: 12:11 p.m. – A caller reported multiple dead birds at the East Little League field. An officer found one dead bird, but the other “birds” was tarp material sticking up in multiple places.

12:46 p.m. – Officers responded to a call about an assault in the midst of a family dispute. A juvenile was asked to clean up a yard and while doing so got into an argument with a family member, who reportedly threw him to the ground. The case is under investigation.

6:30 p.m. – A caller reported that a dog bit a child at Bair’s Trailer Court on West Second. The child’s mother did not wish to pursue charges, but the dog owner was advised that if the dog got out again, the owner would be cited for having an aggressive dog. The owner had the dog put down to prevent any further issues.

9:01 p.m. – A caller on West Seventh reported a garage light being turned on and then off. An officer checked the garage and could find no one inside, nor any footprints in mud outside the garage. The resident was asked to call the next day if anything was missing from the garage, and extra patrol was ordered.

Note: The above calls were received by the Lovell Police Department. Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney.
