Police report: Mystery attacker on the prowl for money

The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of July 28-August 3:

July 28: 9:45 p.m. – A caller reported that the license plates had been stolen off their vehicle on Kansas Avenue. The tags were expiring, and the owner was going to replace the plates anyway but wanted a record that the expired plates were taken.

July 29: 1:57 a.m. – An elderly woman reported that she was missing her wedding ring set that she had for 65 years. The officer spoke with the woman and got information regarding the rings and planned on following up with her the next day. An hour later, the woman called and told the officer that she found the rings.

3:47 p.m. – Officers located a male juvenile from Colorado that had run away and were able to return him to his parents.

4:56 p.m. – A female called to report that she had been riding her scooter along the sidewalk on Carmon Avenue and a dog came out of the yard and caused her minor injuries. The woman chose not to press charges, and no citations were issued.

7:03 p.m. – Following a request, officers performed a welfare check on an elderly man who had fallen asleep in his chair and family members were concerned when he did not answer their phone calls. The individual was OK, just asleep.

10:28 p.m. – A female called to request an officer to stand by as she attempted to collect her belongings that had been thrown in the yard of a male’s residence that she has a protection order against. The officer drove by the location and did not see any of her property on the lawn and passed that information along to the woman that it was unnecessary.

July 30: 12:35 a.m. – After receiving a text message that said, “I can’t do this anymore,” a woman asked officers to check on a male subject’s welfare on East 10th Street. The individual answered the door and spoke with officers and was cleared of concern.

8:51 a.m. – A woman reported that she was receiving threats from a scam caller. She had received two checks in the mail that she deemed were a scam and shredded. Then, she received a phone call informing her that, since she did not send the money from the checks, her mom and dad were going to be kidnapped. Officers confirmed that it was a scam and no one was in real danger.

July 31: 8:06 p.m. – There was a report of a juvenile riding a motorbike on Kansas Avenue and West Second Street and not obeying traffic laws. Officers located the individual and his parents and spoke with them about the importance of safety and laws that applied to the situation.

August 1: 3:38 p.m. – A caller claimed there was a neglected dog on Idaho Avenue that was outside with no food or water. The officer checked on the dog and determined it to be a skinny, growing puppy in good health with water and food accessible. The officer did speak with the owner and advised creating a better shelter structure for the animal.

4:15 p.m. – An individual claimed that a male subject entered the grocery store and said he was going to go home, drink his Sprite and kill himself. Officers contacted the man who said he was OK and denied making such a statement.

8:29 p.m. – Three teenagers were caught starting fires with toilet paper at Armory Park. The juveniles were sent home after they cleaned up the mess they had made.

9:45 p.m. – A woman called to report that she had forgotten to lock the front door of her home when she was running late for work that morning. When she returned home that evening, the door was open and it appeared that items were missing from her home. She was asked to complete a statement, and the case is under investigation.

August 3: 8:41 p.m. – A male resident on Washakie Avenue reported that on the previous night a white male with brown hair had kicked his door open, picked him up and threw him on the floor demanding money. When he did not have money to give the attacker, the subject fled the scene. The resident wanted a record of the assault and asked for extra patrol in the area.

Note: The Lovell Police Department received six separate calls about dogs at large at multiple locations and performed 14 traffic stops throughout the week.

Note: The above calls were received by the Lovell Police Department. Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney.
