Police report: Officers cite resident for chicken ordinance violation

The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of June 30-July 6:

June 30: 9:46 a.m. – A caller reported that there was a small child unattended and crying on East Seventh Street. The father of the child showed up at the same time as the officer after moving something outside. The child had awakened and couldn’t find her dad but checked out OK.

4:34 p.m. – Officers initiated contact with a resident on Garfield Avenue and received a citation for a chicken ordinance violation. The woman has chickens on her property and was unwilling to remove them. She will have to appear in court, and a judge will decide the course of action.

7:09 p.m. – A caller was inquiring about getting a restraining order on her sister and parents for harassing her with phone calls. She was directed to CARES and given information.

July 1: 8:27 a.m. – An individual from New Jersey called to report that someone in Lovell was harassing them. The officer gave them the information to go through Big Horn County for a protection order.

9:24 a.m. – There was a report that a rock had shattered the back window of a vehicle parked at the North Big Horn Senior Center. The rock had come from a hay swather from the field adjacent to the building and was determined to be an accident.

12:21 p.m. – Miguel Cruz Garcia, 42, turned himself in on a warrant and was arrested.

6:35 p.m. – A grandma called to report that her grandson had taken a car without permission, and she had no keys to get it back and that she had been kicked out of the apartment. The grandson was contacted and stated that the vehicle was broken down, and he was trying to fix it. He handed the keys over, and they were returned to the grandma.

July 2: 5:52 p.m. – A report was called in that an individual’s daughter had taken their vehicle without permission. The daughter was contacted and returned the car promptly.

6:38 p.m. – A woman believed her dog was trapped under her garage for two days. The officer and animal control officer removed the tire she believed to have trapped the dog and searched for the dog but was unable to locate it on the property.

9:20 p.m. – A mother called to report that her juvenile daughter had possibly ran away from home on Idaho Avenue. The daughter was at the father’s apartment, and the parents determined to have the daughter transported to the group home in Basin.

July 3: 2:33 p.m. – A report came in about the welfare of a young girl who was crying loudly near Kansas Avenue and Washakie Avenue. When the officer arrived, there were three girls who had been playing kickball, and the crying girl had gotten out during the game and began to cry. She checked out OK.

8:18 p.m. – A small kitten had climbed into the engine area of a sheriff deputy’s truck at the annex building. A trap was set. The officer was unable to capture the kitten, but it managed to escape unharmed.

July 4: 5:34 p.m. – A window of the United Methodist Church was broken by a firework. Due to the volume of fireworks in the area, officers were unable to determine where the firework came from, and it was ruled as an accident.

July 5: 2:34 p.m. – A neighbor at the Rose City West Apartments called to report a possible break-in in progress and requested an officer to the scene. The officer determined it to be a false alarm and was just the resident’s wheelchair hitting the door frame when entering his apartment.

July 6: 7:58 a.m. – A backpack was found in the alley on West Third Street that included a suicide note. After investigation, the officer determined the backpack belonged to the juvenile girl who had been transported to the group home in Basin a few days prior.

11:47 a.m. – A vehicle reportedly drove off without paying after getting gas at Country Store on East Main Street. Officers talked to the driver, who believed he had paid on the mobile app, but the payment had not gone through to the store. He went back to the location and made sure the payment was OK.

7:12 p.m. – A caller reported that the seat of their bike had been stolen. Officers and the caller spoke to the individual they believed to be responsible, and the man said he had not taken it.
