Police report: Police investigate stolen bicycle

The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of May 11-17:

May 11: 12:45 p.m. – A citizen requested to speak with an officer on East Sixth Street, but when the officer responded, no one was home.

3:40 p.m. – A caller on Washakie Avenue said a new unemployment card had been stolen out of the mail and used at a bank in Florida. The card was deactivated and a new card sent.

May 12: 7:02 p.m. – A female caller said she was in the public library, and when she went outside to leave, she noticed that her bicycle was missing from the bike rack. Officers checked the area but couldn’t see the bike. The case is under investigation.

May 13: 8:55 p.m. – A caller reported that water was backing up to the highway on West Main in Lovell due to a plugged culvert or pipe in an adjacent field. The owner responded to clear the plug, and the water receded.

May 14: An officer responded with DFS to Lovell High School for a welfare check on a juvenile female.

May 15: 1:13 a.m. – A caller on Hampshire reported someone trying to break into the caller’s house, possibly two people banging on the door. An officer responded but couldn’t find anybody in the area. The caller made a similar report two days later, and an officer could see no one when checking the neighborhood, however extra patrol was to be provided.

1:55 a.m. – A caller reported that two male subjects were being loud in a hallway and outside at the Travelodge on East Main in Lovell. An officer responded and spoke to the males, who agreed they may have been speaking too loud and were going to retire for the night.

3:19 a.m. – An officer responded to a report of a suicidal individual on Oregon Avenue that was reported via a suicide hot line. An officer spoke to the subject, who said he had dialed the number to see how the hotline worked. He was not suicidal.

7:54 a.m. – A caller reported that a dog had been hit by a car on Kansas Avenue, but the dog was OK and returned to its owner.

4:29 p.m. – A female from Florida asked to speak to an officer at the police station, saying she had picked up an STD from a male in Lovell and wished to press charges.

May 16: 12:32 a.m. – An officer responded to a report of a fight at the Four Corners, with the caller stating that she had been punched in the face, but an officer determined that a black eye was from a different incident. The parties were separated.

10:26 a.m. – A citizen asked to speak to an officer about a weed ordinance violation letter sent by the LPD. The person was advised to cut weeds that were more than a foot tall.

 11:19 a.m. – A caller reported receiving a suspicious package that, when opened, contained only crumpled pieces of paper. Two other packages were opened at the police station and also contained crumpled paper. Police were unable to trace the sender.

8:28 p.m. – A family member reported an intoxicated and possibly suicidal subject in town. An officer responded, and the subject was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.

Police also responded to 14 calls regarding barking or missing dogs this week.

Note: The above calls were received by the Lovell Police Department. Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney.
