Police report: Report of shots fired were Thanksgiving fireworks

The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of November 24-30:

November 24: 5:19 p.m. – A REDDI report was called in regarding a black Toyota 4-Runner driving sporadically – “all over the road, speeding up and slowing down.” The vehicle was found parked at Lovell Drug, and an officer was unable to obtain probable cause.

11:07 p.m. – An officer responded to a vehicle that had slid off the road just east of town. The driver said she was OK and had already called for a tow truck.

 November 25: 3:14 p.m. – A caller asked for a welfare check for a resident on Shoshone Avenue, saying she had not heard from a woman in about three weeks and that she had missed a doctor’s appointment. An officer called, and the woman explained she was fine and didn’t answer the door because it takes a long time for her to get there.

5:30 p.m. – An officer responded to a report of an assault by a teenage male on his mother, which was broken up by his stepfather. There was no room at the group home in Basin initially, so other arrangements were made until he could be transported later.

9:02 p.m. – North Big Horn Hospital reported a possible occurrence of elder abuse. The case is under investigation.

November 26: 12:24 p.m. – A minor collision took place on East Main when a car driving west on Main Street was switching lanes and didn’t see a car in the adjacent lane, sideswiping the vehicle. The two drivers pulled over and exchanged information. No citations were issued.

8:33 p.m. – A REDDI report was called in regarding a black Ford “dualy” swerving in and out of lanes and almost hitting other vehicles. The pickup did not enter the town limit, turning off before town.

November 27: 7:59 p.m. – A report of gunshots fired turned out to be fireworks being set off at the rodeo grounds east of town.

November 28: 6:53 p.m. – An officer assisted a motorist who had become stuck on the Shoshone Avenue hill. The officer was able to get her on her way.

7:09 p.m. – A Dodge Ram pickup pulling a flatbed trailer jackknifed and collided with a parked vehicle after sliding on the S curve at the sugar factory while coming into town from the west.

November 29: A caller reported a possible case of harassment in which a person encountered her boss in Powell and provided unwanted and inaccurate information about her. The caller was informed that the case was civil in nature and referred her to CARES for information on stalking and harassment.

November 30: 8:19 a.m. – Callers reported that the railroad crossing lights at the west end of the Big Horn Lake causeway east of Lovell were on and creating a bottleneck as drivers had to slow and proceed cautiously. The Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railroad was contacted.

2:32 p.m. – A caller reported a black Lab named Nova missing from Eighth Street in Lovell. An officer found the dog and returned it to its owner, and a police spokesman noted, “We’ve become pretty good friends with Nova.”

2:55 p.m. – A caller from Bair’s Trailer Court on East Second Street reported that a person “had been staying with her for a week or two and won’t leave.” An officer responded and told the person to leave the residence.

9:22 p.m. – An officer responded to Oregon Avenue after a caller complained that a dog had been “barking all night.” The officer went to the residence and found the owner asleep. She stated that she had fallen and disrupted her medications and then fell asleep, causing the dog to bark on the cold night.
