Police report: Scooter-car collision leads to safety talk with juvenile

The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of April 20-26:

April 20: 10:16 a.m. – A citizen brought in a suspected scam check written for $3,900 from the National Bank of Arizona with an incorrect address for the bank. The citizen was advised to not attempt to cash the check.

11:14 a.m. – A male caller reported being followed by a female in a truck, but no criminal activity was observed. The man was referred to CARES for a possible stalking or harassment order.

4:03 p.m. – An officer checked on a reportedly suicidal subject in Lovell, and she was found to be OK. She refused assistance at the scene but said she had a plan to get some help.

9:30 p.m. – A Lovell resident called in while traveling to report someone with a flashlight outside her home on Montana Avenue, seen on her RING doorbell. An officer responded and could find no one in the area matching the description of the flashlight wielding suspect.

April 21: 9:54 a.m. – An officer investigated a minor hit and run the previous Friday during prom night at the high school parking lot. An officer determined who was driving the car that caused damage and spoke to the juvenile driver, who admitted the incident and said he panicked and drove away after the crash. The reporting party needed a report for insurance, and no citations were issued.

April 22: 4:01 a.m. – A caller complained of loud music coming from a residence at Bair’s Trailer Court on West Second. An officer was unable to make contact with anyone inside the musical trailer.

6:15 a.m. – A resident on Nevada Avenue reported puppies in his yard, running loose, an issue that has been going on for weeks.

12:48 p.m. – A black dog was reported in the garden of the reporting party from the above call on Nevada. Another call about the dogs came in on April 25 and two more on April 26.

10:24 p.m. – A caller reported a grey Dodge Ram with several people in it at the East Little League fields, with “some kind of laser” being used. Both an officer and a deputy sheriff responded, but neither encountered or could find the Dodge truck.

April 23: 7:06 a.m. – A caller reported witnessing a scooter with a middle school driver T-boning a silver four-door Jeep at Nevada and Main. The caller said the two parties were talking at the scene but were gone when an officer arrived at the scene. Speeds were slow at the time of the collision, and no damage occurred to either the scooter or the Jeep. An officer spoke to the juvenile about safe scooter operation.

3:35 p.m. -- An officer assisted a deputy with a warrant arrest on Nevada Avenue.

April 24: Three different 911 hangup incidents were investigated.

April 25: 9:48 a.m. – An aggressive medium sized dog and a friendly larger dog were reported out on Great Western Avenue. Police contacted the owner, who said he would come get the dogs.

3:15 p.m. – A 7-year-old panicked and contacted police when he couldn’t find his parents at home after playing downstairs, not realizing his high school age brother was in the house. The parents were at the store. The boy was given a wooden nickel award at the station for taking the initiative to report what he believed to be a scary situation.

April 26: 10:55 a.m. – Four young boys wearing hoodies were reported looking into cars at West Second and Jersey, but when contacted, they said they were only checking out a car with a For Sale sign in the window.

10:58 a.m. – Police are investigating property ownership in the case of a white Ford F150 parking on a graveled area between the sidewalk and the street on East Fifth Street.

4:41 p.m. – A citizen checked with police on a probable scam stating that the individual owed money for a traffic violation in Laramie County. An officer confirmed the message to be a scam.

Note: The above calls were received by the Lovell Police Department. Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney.
