Police report: Suspected intruder was just a sister’s prank

The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of June 2-8:

June 2: 11:30 a.m. – A resident called the police station saying that a yellow motor bike was abandoned on her property. The officer responded and told the woman that since it was on her private property, she had the right to have it towed.

6:49 p.m. – An individual came into the police department claiming that her ex-boyfriend was making death threats to her. The officers gave her contact information for CARES to pursue harassment charges.

June 3: 6:01 a.m. – A front door burglary alarm went off at a local store. The manager was contacted and wanted officers to verify that the building was secure. The officer checked the building. There were no signs of criminal activity, and it was determined that it was just a malfunction with the alarm.

3:28 p.m. – A caller reported that there were two dogs left outside in a cage with no shade on East Third Street. Officers responded and were unable to locate the dogs.

10:22 p.m. – A resident on Montana Avenue reported a group of juveniles screaming and being loud in the alley behind their house. The officer located the kids at a neighboring home and instructed them to keep the noise down while playing night games.

June 4: 8:33 a.m. – Destiny Devyak was arrested for a bond violation during a required check-in at the police station. 

11:34 a.m. – A call came in from a Main Street business owner that her truck was parked on the street and an elderly woman who had parked behind her hit the back bumper of her truck when leaving. The caller did not wish to report the crash, and the officer contacted the identified elderly woman and informed her of the need to report all accidents.

2:06 p.m. – A call came into the police station from a computer technology company that they believed they had a local customer that was being scammed with his credit card information. Contact was made with the individual, and he was instructed to contact his card company.

3:58 p.m. – A call came in that an adult male had pulled up in a vehicle next to a juvenile in front of the fire department and flipped them off before driving away. The information was given to officers but they were unable to locate the vehicle.

5:25 p.m. – A woman came into the police station to report that her ex-husband was harassing her about her Venmo account. She had blocked him from viewing transactions, but he was having someone else take screenshots of her activity on the app. The officer instructed her to set her whole profile to private and that there was nothing illegal about the issue.

10:02 p.m. – A caller requested a welfare check on their neighbor’s home on Pennsylvania Avenue because their back porch light kept flashing on and off. The officer made contact and found that the light was on a motion sensor and was just malfunctioning. Everything checked out OK.

June 5: 11:34 p.m. – A female called to report suspicious activity at her apartment on Montana Avenue. She said that an unknown subject was banging on her door, covering the peep hole and possibly trying to get in the apartment. Upon arrival, the officer was notified that the caller cancelled the call because it had been her sister joking around with her.

June 6: 12:53 a.m. – A counselor called and requested a welfare check on an individual with mental health issues on East Third Street. Officers contacted the individual and gave them a courtesy ride to the hospital where the individual voluntarily stayed.

8:13 a.m. – A request was made for an officer to assist with a civil standby on East Third Street to retrieve a side-by-side vehicle. The owner had the side-by-side towed, so the retrieving party was informed to contact the towing company to claim the vehicle.

10:06 a.m. – A traffic stop was made at the corner of West Third Street and Jersey Avenue on a black Mustang GT with no plates. The driver was the male individual from the civil standby earlier that morning after going to the tow yard and realizing the towing and storage fees to release the side-by-side. He was also pulled over for driving over double the speed limit on Main Street, and Cameron Coplen was arrested for reckless driving, speeding, compulsory auto insurance, reckless conduct and no seatbelt.

June 7: 5:19 p.m. – A woman called and reported that her sister was intoxicated on Kansas Avenue,was attempting to leave with two children and had assaulted the mother. After the officer’s investigation, Trinette Cluff was arrested for simple battery.

5:53 p.m. – A caller reported that a suicidal male had been drinking on Montana Avenue. The responding officer made contact, and the individual voluntarily went to the hospital for evaluation.

7:29 p.m. – A resident on Lincoln Avenue called to report that many suspicious individuals and vehicles were coming and going from a nearby house and requested extra patrol in the area.

10:03 p.m. – A report came in that a group of kids were riding their electric scooters on the Lovell High School track. The officer located the group of 15-20 juveniles and informed them that no scooters were allowed on the track, as indicated by signs at the location, and the kids left the area.

June 8: 9:41 p.m. – A caller reported that a suspicious man had approached a group of juveniles on West Second Street asking them to come and talk to him. The juveniles took off running to one of their homes and called in the information.

11:41 p.m. – There was a report of a subject wandering around vehicles parked at an apartment complex on Montana Avenue. Officers contacted the subject and discovered he is a resident of the apartment building. The battery on his wheelchair had died, and it was just his wife trying to help him get into the apartment.
