The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of September 15-21:
September 15: 3:11 p.m. – A caller reported a white and brown husky loose at Kansas and Third and running up to cars. The dog had tags and was returned to its owner.
September 16: 10:01 a.m. – A citizen flagged down an officer to complain about scooters driving dangerously in town.
2:03 p.m. – A caller reported that someone had stolen his front license plate. He wanted to report the incident in case someone used the plate.
5:46 p.m. – A caller reported a squirrel acting strangely at West 8th and Shoshone, possibly suffering from rabies. The citizen put a bucket over the squirrel, and Game and Fish came and picked it up.
September 17: 11:07 a.m. – A report of a camper blocking an alley on Idaho Avenue turned out to be a slide-out sticking out into the alley. The slide-out was retracted.
September 18: 7:34 a.m. – A caller reported a suspicious box on West Main, which turned out to be a misdelivered box. The box was taken to the police department, and the owner was contacted.
12:17 p.m. – A caller reported a skinny dog on Idaho Avenue that appeared to be neglected, with no food or water and the dog tied up in a “tiny, shaded area.” An officer responded and found the dog in good shape with plenty of food and water, plus a dog bed.
3:59 p.m. – The LPD assisted the Wyoming Highway Patrol with the arrest of Cruz Garcia for DUI following a traffic stop.
6:44 p.m. – A domestic fight inside a home on West Main moved outside, where the incident was witnessed by neighbors. Officers arrested Tim DeFuentes, 34, for violation of bond conditions and domestic assault with injuries.
September 19: 9:59 a.m. – A caller reported that a dog followed her home when she was out on a morning walk and then got into chickens on the property. The caller caught and held the dog, which was transported to the animal control center.
1:09 p.m. – A two-car fender bender was reported at Jersey and Main, with no injuries but Main Street road blockage. Two vehicles were westbound on Main when the lead vehicle, a Chevy Suburban driven by Ella Bazemore of Lovell, stopped for a pedestrian. A following vehicle, a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Jacque Wagner of Lovell, collided with the Suburban from behind, the driver having not noticed the stopped vehicle. Bazemore was taken to the police station on a warrant for unpaid fines, which she then paid, and Wagner was cited for no child restraint in use with two kids in the vehicle and failure to yield.
1:50 p.m. – The mother of a sixth grader came to the police department saying her daughter called from school stating that she didn’t ride the bus and was hanging out with friends until the homecoming football game. The mother was not OK with that plan, and an officer helped her find her wayward daughter.
September 20: 12:26 a.m. – A caller reported a couple violently shaking a child at the Maverik Country Store. An officer and a deputy responded, and the case is under investigation.
1:14 a.m. – Noisy dogs were reported on Idaho Avenue. An officer responded and could hear and see three dogs in the backyard, with a pit bull doing much of the barking. The officer was not able to immediately rouse the dog owner, and when contact was eventually made, the owner said he had fallen asleep and forgot to bring the dogs inside.
2:26 a.m. – An officer assisted the Powell Police Department in an attempt to locate a 17-year-old female whose mother had reported her missing and possibly with a Lovell High School student. A description of the girl’s vehicle was given, but she could not be located.
1:46 p.m. – A caller reported that two dogs had come into their yard and attacked their smaller dog, which was “pretty tore up” and needed surgery in Billings. The dogs were taken into custody and held, and a court date is pending for the owner.
5:09 p.m. – A caller reported finding several beer cans in his woodpile, plus around 30 cigarette butts. Extra patrol was ordered.
September 21: 8:42 p.m. – A caller reported a man at the 4 Corners Bar was making crude gestures, was intoxicated and was going outside to drive home. An officer followed the man and could not find any probable cause for a stop.
Note: The above calls were received by the Lovell Police Department. Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney.
