Raymond Lamar Snell

May 29, 1934 – Aug. 12, 2026

Raymond Lamar Snell, 92,  passed away August 12, 2026, surrounded by family. Ray lived a long life, taking great pride in his farm and ranch and taking care of his cattle and land up until the very end.

He was born on May 29, 1934, in Lovell to Leroy and Betsy Snell.

Ray was raised in Byron alongside his many brothers and sisters. He graduated from Byron High School. He then attended Northwest Community College, where he played football and basketball. Once he was done with college, he went to work for Diamond Lumber for many years. He finished working at Kummerfeld, where he worked alongside his son Coray until he retired.

Raymond and Roberta Cockrell were married April 3, 1959. They had three children, Sydney, Coray and Bryan. Ray is finally reunited with Roberta since she preceded him in death in 1993.

He spent a lot of time in the mountains on his ranch, where he ran his cattle and checked on cows and fields up to the very last days. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and he took great joy in watching them grow.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Betsy; wife Roberta Cockrell; and siblings Hillman, Roy, Russ, Ivan, Clifford and Cleo.

He is survived by his siblings, Darwin (Pat) and Maxine; children Sydney, Coray (Marya) and Bryan; grandchildren Casey, Emily (Daniel), Kaelan and Robert; and one great-grandchild Hayden.

A viewing will take place Friday, Aug. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Haskell Funeral Home with an interment at the Byron Cemetery the next day, Saturday, Aug. 22, at 10 a.m.
