He grew up on a farm near Byron and lived most of his life in Lovell. He was born in Lovell on Feb. 6, 1936.Richard married the love of his life, Lillian, in August of 1958. He worked for MDU for 36 years. Richard served on the town council and chamber of commerce, along with being president of the Lovell Volunteer Fire Department. He held several positions in St John’s Lutheran Church and Wyoming District Lutheran Laymen’s League.He was generous to everyone who knew him and always had a smile, and he enjoyed a cup of coffee with friends. His grandchildren will always remember Grandpa coming to baseball, basketball, volleyball, wrestling, football, soccer and track events. He was their greatest supporter, and if he could not attend, he waited for a phone call from them.Richard is survived by his wife, Lillian, of 55 years; daughters Susan (Darell) Bohl and Annette (Lief) Welhaven; sons Justin and Bart; grandchildren Jason and Shyla Reed, Kelsey Bohl, Colton and Hope Welhaven and Madison Hettinger; along with numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents Sophie Harvey and Jake Hettinger; stepfather Clyde Harvey; and mother and father-in-law John and Dorothea Fink.Viewing will be held Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. at Haskell Funeral Home in Lovell. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Aug. 23, at 10 a.m. at St John’s Lutheran Church. Haskell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations can be made to any charity of choice.
