RMMS netters face tough competition
The Rocky Mountain Middle School volleyball team struggled on the scoreboard this week but are showing improvement, coach Lacey Bassett reported this week.
Playing nine matches, all on the road, the Lady Grizz won several sets but only came away with one match victory.
The Lady Grizz traveled to Greybull Thursday and dropped all three matches to the Lady Buffs. Greybull won the A game 25-14, 25-13, 12-15, swept the B game 25-16, 26-24, 15-8 and took the C game 25-23, 18-25, 15-12.
Hitting the road again Saturday, the Lady Grizzlies traveled to Shoshoni, where they dropped the A match 26-27, 25-18, 15-12. The Lady Grizz won the B game 27-25, 25-20, 15-12 but lost the C match 25-12, 25-23.
The Rocky netters made the short trip to Lovell Tuesday and dropped all three matches and all nine sets to the Bulldogs. Lovell won the A game 25-12, 25-15, 15-5, took the B game 25-9, 25-16, 15-6 and swept the C game 25-14, 25-16, 16-14.
“We had some really good competition this weekend,” Bassett said. “Even though we didn’t secure a win, the A Team is showing a lot of improvement from the beginning of the season. We just need to light a fire under them and get them excited out on the court.
“We are a little more than halfway through the season and will see teams for a second time before our conference tournament. The B and C teams are also looking good and improving each game. We have a young team and expect a lot out of these girls. They are a hard-working group.”
The Lady Grizz will enjoy some home cooking this week as they host Burlington today (Thursday) at 4:15 p.m., Thermopolis Saturday at 10 a.m. and Greybull Monday at 4:15 p.m. The conference tournaments are on Saturday, Oct. 12, with the A tournament in Greybull and the B tournament in Burlington.
