RMMS volleyball squads win four of six postseason matches
The Rocky Mountain Middle School volleyball teams wrapped up the 2026 fall season with some strong play at the conference tournament and a jamboree.
Coach Lacey Bassett reported that the RMMS A team split a pair of matches at the Big Horn Conference Tournament in Thermopolis Saturday, falling to host Thermopolis 25-18, 25-21 but rebounding to beat Ten Sleep 25-10, 19-25, 15-7.
Competing in Basin at a B/C jamboree, the Rocky Mountain B team fell to Greybull 25-23, 21-25, 16-14 but defeated Riverside 25-10, 25-17. The Rocky C team topped Riverside 25-10, 22-25, 15-9 and beat Greybull 23-25, 27-26, 15-10.
“The Lady Grizz wrapped up a fun season at the middle school tournament, finishing with a win,” Bassett said. “The A team did a great job running a 6-2 offense, something we’ve worked toward in past seasons and were able to put together successfully with this group as we prepare them for high school. These girls have height, talent and so much potential, and I’m proud of their growth and excited to see them continue building confidence and mental toughness.
“Our B and C teams also had a great year, playing hard despite constantly changing lineups. I’m thankful for all the girls and families who made this season a fun one. I am excited to be in the stands again and watch these girls in basketball and wrestling.”
Football
RMMS head football coach Hal Moore summed up the Grizzlies’ season with the following statement:
“I have always told my kids that you can learn just as much from a bad coach as you can a good coach; it all comes down to perspective,” Moore said. “The same goes for a football season. You can learn as much (many times more) from a tough season than you can from a close to perfect season. This season leaned more toward a tough season, and as a coach, I had to adjust my perspective and focus more on the individual players and less on the season, teaching more player responsibilities and position soundness.
“By making this change, we started seeing individuals succeed and improve in understanding the game of football. Even though our only win as a team came when the sixth graders and smaller seventh graders defeated Greybull’s younger team, we still found success with the rest of the team as they found heart, perseverance and hopefully a greater love for the game.”
