Rocky grapples kick off their season with two tournaments
The Rocky Mountain Middle School wrestlers traveled to Cody for their first meet of the season on October 26, then hosted a meet in Cowley on November 2.
In Cody, eighth graders Benson Jolley and Michael Broederlow started off their season well at the Cody Invitational with Jolley taking first in his division (126) and Broederlow taking second in his (185).
As for the seventh graders, Dally Malson swept his division (145-153), receiving first place, and Jason Unruh placed fourth in his division (88-91). Xavier Hetland placed second (127-138) and Hudson Moore placed fourth in his division (77-84). Wyatt Blank placed second in the 91-pound division, and Henry Pincoske placed fourth at 109-113.
The sixth graders did some good things, as well, including Harper Griffin placing third in her division (97-103). Mason Haslem placed third at 91-95 pounds, Gabe Walker fourth (102-107), Maddox Ward second (64-68). Nolan Hedges placed third (112-122), and Tripp Hopkin placed second at 71-77 pounds.
Wrestlers from Burlington also placed: Riggin Harris second (98-103), Chase Allen third (112-120) and Raegan Wood third (125-132).
“All the kids did a great job this weekend, and all did their best. We had a lot of kids place well and perform impressively,” coach Aric Hanusa said. “Overall, it was a great start to the season.”
Home tourney
On Saturday, the Rocky wrestlers hosted a home meet, and eighth grader Jolley placed first again in his division (126).
Seventh graders who placed were Blank, second in his division (91), Hetland fourth (132) and Unruh second (98).
Sixth grader Ward placed fourth in his division (70) and Hopkin second at 77 pounds.
Harris from Burlington placed third in his division 105, and Wood, placed fourth at 126 pounds.
“The kids are working very hard with the limited time we have,” head coach Tim Jones said. “We have lots of kids excited about learning and getting better. We lost some matches we were good enough to win, but we are going to work on those mistakes this week; it’s all part of the process.”
The RMMS wrestlers will travel to Worland this weekend (Saturday) for a tournament including lots of big schools.
“This week’s tournament should be a tough one. It will be a long day with great competition,” Jones said.
