Rocky middle school runners all show improvement at conference meet

The Rocky Mountain Middle School cross country team made the short trip to Powell Thursday for their last meet of the 2024 season at the Powell Golf Course at 12:30.

The whole team made improvements, almost all running a new personal record.

Eighth grader Rowan Hanusa hit a new PR with the time of 12:31, 27 seconds faster than his previous record. He held the 12th place spot at the meet, finishing his season on a high note. 

Eighth grader Cameron Minchow dropped over a minute off of his personal best with a time of 14:43, his time at the beginning of the year being 16:17. Grant Weierman, also an eighth grader, ran a time of 13:47, also improving from his initial time.

Seventh grader Jasper Tippetts had a time of 24:26, hitting a new PR by 4 seconds. Jasper improved with his time at the beginning of the season being 27:13.

Sixth grader Mason Haslem came back from an injur,y running a time of 20:31 and beating his PR by two minutes, improving from the beginning of his season with his time then being 22:53.

Coach Gerry Burton raved about all the improvements made, saying, “They all ran hard and scored personal best times for the year. It has been an amazing year. The runners have been a delight to coach. I’m so excited to see where each of them goes from here.

“It’s looking like our eighth graders will help to complete a strong high school team, and I have heard that several of the upcoming fifth graders are excited to run with us next season. What a great end to a fantastic season of cross country.”
