Rocky Mtn. Middle School athletes compete against Wyoming’s best in Lander
Grizzlies place in multiple events at all-class Best of the Best meet
Competing against 42 teams from across western Wyoming, Rocky Mountain Middle School athletes turned in a strong showing at the all-class Best of the Best Track and Field Meet held May 12 in Lander.
The meet brings together many of the top middle school athletes in the state, with competitors qualifying through pre-determined standards during the regular season. Rocky Mountain qualified 10 girls and nine boys for the prestigious meet and earned top-eight finishes in a wide variety of events.
Raelyn Reculusa had one of the top all-around performances for the Grizzlies, placing in two events. Reculusa finished sixth in the 100-meter dash in 14.05 seconds and added a third-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 14-7.75.
Tianna Christiansen also earned two top-eight finishes for Rocky Mountain. Christiansen placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.60 seconds and cleared 8-0 to finish third in the pole vault.
Will Simmons placed in two field events for the Grizzly boys team. Simmons tied for seventh in the high jump after clearing 4-10 and added an eighth-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 30-10.5.
Other top-eight finishers for the Rocky Mountain girls included Presli Moss, who placed eighth in the 800-meter run in 2:42.22, Taylor Grandalen, who took sixth in the high jump at 4-4, and Alexis Clark, who finished seventh in the shot put with a throw of 23-8.
The Rocky Mountain girls 4x400 relay team of Christiansen, Josie Loyning, Moss and Reculusa claimed the sole championship for RMMS, placing first with a time of 4:41.02.
For the boys team, Brooks Brost placed seventh in the high jump after clearing 5-2, Tyler Crosby finished sixth in the pole vault at 8-6 and Dally Malson earned seventh in the discus with a throw of 115-9.
Other marks and finishes for Rocky Mountain included Reculusa, who placed 17th in the 200-meter dash (29.60), Moss, who took 10th in the 100-meter hurdles (18.59) and 12th in the long jump (13-7.75), Christiansen, who finished 14th in the 200-meter hurdles (33.60), Loyning, who placed 28th in the 200-meter hurdles (35.70) and ninth in the long jump (13-9), Kielley Brimhall, who finished 13th in the triple jump (27-5), Elle Ganoung, who placed 20th in the triple jump (26-6.5) and 26th in the shot put (23-0), and Ashlynn Davison, who finished 22nd in the shot put (20-7).
For the boys, Kaiden Adey placed 14th in the 800-meter run (2:34.16) and 17th in the 1,600-meter run (5:48.96), Hudson Moore finished 10th in the 100-meter hurdles (17.60) and 15th in the triple jump (34-7.5), Malson took 12th in the 200-meter hurdles (30.64) and 23rd in the shot put (32-8.5), Eli Wallman finished 17th in the high jump (4-6), Brost placed 14th in the triple jump (34-10), Derek Hedges took 12th in the shot put (35-9), and Bryden Beall finished 30th in the shot put (26-6.5).
