Rocky music students perform well at music assessment

Rocky Mountain High School students received strong marks at the recent Music Performance Assessment held April 21-22 at Northwest College in Powell.

Music director Gerry Burton said the RMHS concert band received a grade of 2-plus overall, with three judges scoring 1, 2-plus and 2.

“They did amazing for a small group,” he said.

Three instrumental solos received superior (1) marks: Lilian Wenstrom on baritone saxophone, John Mader on tenor sax and Annie Crosby on piano.

An ensemble featuring Jadyn Bills on bass clarinet, Ethan Haslem on alto sax and Wenstrom on bari sax received a 1, as did the RMHS guitar ensemble. An ensemble featuring Rowan Hanusa on trombone, Cameron Minchow on clarinet and Alex Walker on clarinet received a 3.

The Rocky Mountain choir received a superior (1) rating with scores of 1, 1 and 2-plus.

“They did outstanding,” Burton said. “What a great group to work with.”

Ten vocal solos received a superior rating: Lily Bauwens, Jameeliv Brost, Keylee Christiansen, Evynn Alvarez, Evynn with a guitar, Bailey Simcox, Nevaeh Bisby, Paul Shetler, Bills, Wenstrom and Jaxx May.

Soloists receiving a 2 were Ellie Alvarez, Lily George, Layla Gardner, Ady Johnson, Jiggs Yellowtail and Walker.

The duet of Christiansen and George received a 1, and the quartet of Zach Unruh, Yellowtail, Walker and Shetler received a 2.
