Senior Center Chatter: Art projects becoming popular at center
One of the services growing in popularity at the North Big Horn Senior Center is the arts and crafts classes led by Donna Capellen.
Next week, Capellen will be instructing classes on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons beginning at 1 p.m. that will be Easter themed.
The two projects to choose from are the wooden Easter bunny or the felt Easter gnome.
Sign-up sheets are filling up fast, but senior citizens may claim the remaining spots by signing up at the center in advance so the staff can plan supplies accordingly.
“Donna has really been working to enhance our Title III B program, which are our supportive services, by offering a variety of unique craft ideas,” senior center bookkeeper Melissa Cavender said. “Before, we would only have maybe five or six seniors come to participate, but now the rooms are filling up and the center is buzzing with positive feedback by offering more crafts.”
Capellen began conducting the bi-weekly group arts and craft sessions in December, and the center has seen a steady increase in attendance.
Each session is free to senior citizens in the community, and there is no art or crafting experience required.
The classes have worked with watercolors, acrylic paint pouring, silhouette paintings and many more mediums.
“This is what we are here for,” Capellen said. “We visit, laugh and enjoy each other’s company while creating fun things for them to keep and be proud of.”
