Sheriff’s report: Mannequin in river confused for dead body

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Department received the following calls for October 30 to November 6:
Oct. 30:  6:10 p.m. - Deputies received a report of a semi-truck stuck in heavy snow on Highway 14A East in the Big Horn Mountains. Wyoming Highway Patrol was notified and helped free the truck.
Nov. 1: 10:08 p.m. - Deputies were called to Lane 8 in Deaver after the report of a wildland fire, with the caller stating that it looked like several trees were on fire. According to Nick Loftus, chief of the Deaver-Frannie Fire Department, the fire originated as a controlled burn and was extinguished without the aid of firefighters.
Nov. 3: 5:07 a.m. – After Lovell officers received multiple calls regarding a silver SUV with Idaho plates driving erratically in town, deputies received a report of a silver SUV with Idaho plates driving erratically on Highway 310. According to a separate report made at the time to the Lovell Police Department, the vehicle was reported as swerving all over the road and using the wrong blinker light to turn. A report  made 27 minutes later stated that an unseen vehicle hit the “Emblem” sign just before the beet piles, with another vehicle hitting it again, not seeing it lying in the middle of the road. Deputies were unable to locate the silver SUV. The report was forwarded to Wyoming Highway Patrol.
Nov. 4: 6:31 a.m. – Deputies received a report of a suspicious individual walking around the search and rescue building behind the annex with a flashlight. Deputies investigated but found no one on scene. No damage was recorded to the building nor were any items taken.
6:44 p.m. – Deputies were called to Lane 12 outside of Lovell after a car hit a side-by-side on private property, causing damage to the recreational vehicle. The owner of the side-by-side elected not to press charges, with both the driver of the car at fault and the owner of the property deciding to handle the issue among themselves.
Nov. 5: 12:10 a.m. - Deputies were called to Highway 310 outside of Deaver after a passerby spotted a blue GMC Sierra wrecked on the side of the road. The call was forwarded to Wyoming Highway Patrol. According to Big Horn County Sheriff records, when patrol officers approached the vehicle, the driver unsuccessfully attempted to flee. Ramon Hernandez, 40, from Worland was arrested for driving under the influence.
3:18 p.m. – Deputies were called to North Heart Mountain Street in Byron for a report of a dog trespassing on property and killing chickens. Deputies have responded to multiple reports of the dog killing chickens. The owner of the dog was cited for having a dangerous animal, and the case remains under investigation.
Deputies received a report of a dead body floating down the Shoshone River. Deputies located and retrieved the body, but determined that it was not a person but a life-sized mannequin that appeared as a human body from a distance.
Nov. 6: 5:40 a.m. - Wyoming Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 310 just north of Deaver. According to Trooper Blaine Mollett, a blue 1994 Geo Metro was driving northbound from Powell when it struck a 2001 yellow Ford Escape traveling southbound.    
Mollett said while negotiating the curve, the Metro went across the center line and hit the Escape, causing the Ford Escape to roll two-and-a-half times, coming to rest on its hood. The driver of the Escape had to be extricated by responding emergency personnel and was transported to NBHH hospital with severe lacerations to the head. Mollett said the driver was released from the hospital early Monday morning.
Caden Sherman, 19, of Powell was cited for reckless driving.
