Sheriff report: Battling couple near Deaver brings deputy sheriff response

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of August 18-24:

August 18: 10:30 a.m. – A deputy checked on two people flying remote control airplanes in a field next to Lovell Middle School and explained that school was soon to be in session. They understood and loaded up their planes and took them elsewhere.

August 19: 2:05 a.m. – Two deputies responded to a report of a domestic assault near Deaver. They spoke to a male, who was intoxicated, and said he had been bitten on the lip by his female partner “for no reason.” The female said he got in her face, so she bit him on the lip. Neither wanted to press charges, but they were separated for the evening, and a deputy gave the woman a ride to a motel.

8:17 a.m. – A deputy responded to a report of a calf on the highway near Byron on U.S. 14A. The deputy put the calf back in its pasture.

4:26 p.m. – Deputies responded to a controlled burn southeast of Cowley that had spread into haystacks.

6:09 p.m. and 6:57 p.m. – Two reports of rural residents having no water were called in. A deputy who is also a member of the South End Water Users board dealt with the situation, which may have been related to the firemen fighting the earlier haystack fire.

7:31 p.m. – The couple in a domestic early that morning near Deaver were in conflict once again, with the female stating she was attempting to pack up and move to Las Vegas. The male told her to “get out” and she called for sheriff’s assistance. A deputy responded and stood by while she loaded her belongings.

August 20: 7:57 p.m. – Deputies assisted at the scene of a small brush fire on the Lovell Lakes Road.

August 21: 12:23 p.m. – Three big goats and five to six kid goats were reported loose on North Cloud Peak Street in Byron but were gone when a deputy responded.

7:13 p.m. – Horses were reported loose on Wyoming Highway 32 southwest of Byron. A deputy responded, put the horses back in their pasture and secured the gate.

August 22: 10:38 a.m. – A deputy checked on a Harley Davidson motorcycle with a tow tag on it parked at Wyoming 32 and County Road 2. A voicemail message was left with the owner, and the motorcycle was gone the next day.

August 23: 11:25 a.m. – A report of a pivot spraying water onto the highway just east of Byron on U.S. 14A was referred to the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

11:10 p.m. – A caller living west of Byron asked for extra patrol, stating that he was going to be out of town and had suffered from vandalism when gone in the past.

August 24: 11:18 a.m. – A man called to let the sheriff’s office know that a trailer had come off the hitch on his pickup but that the trailer was off the road and he was dealing with the situation.

Kayley Jo Harris, 23, of Cowley was arrested for DWUI – child in vehicle plus improper lane usage after being stopped late Saturday night west of Byron on U.S. 14A.

Note: The above calls were received by the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office. Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney.
