Sheriff report: Byron man arrested for strangulation

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of June 23-29:

June 23: 8:06 p.m. – A deputy came upon a motorist parked alongside U.S. 14A west of Byron who was dealing with a flat tire. The officer was informed that help was on the way.

10:21 p.m. – A deputy investigated a complaint of barking dogs on North Cloud Peak Street in Byron. This is a recurring civil issue between two parties, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

June 24: The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Powell Police Department with locating a subject near the county line west of Byron.

12:08 p.m. – A deputy spoke to an individual about a possible scam involving a tree/landscaping company.

June 25: 11:13 a.m. – A caller advised that a reddish orange Corvette was racing up and down Lane 13 at a high rate of speed. The sheriff’s office will provide extra patrol in that area.

12:02 p.m. – A caller reported cows out on Road 5 near Frog Rock, but the area is open range, so cattle can move as they please, according to a spokesman.

7:02 p.m. – A deputy helped a woman who was locked out of her car in Cowley.

June 26: 11:38 a.m. – A deputy stopped to assist a driver parked at Rocky Mountain High School in Cowley. The driver pulling a camper trailer was simply checking out the camper to make sure everything was OK.

9:31 p.m. – Cows were reported loose on Highway 37 east of Lovell. The owner was notified of the escapees.

9:52 p.m. – A deputy responded to a report of a domestic disturbance on Third Street South in Cowley. The altercation was not physical, and the male party “loaded up his stuff and left for Utah.”

10:44 p.m. – A caller reported that two small raccoons won’t leave his property on East Yellowstone in Byron, but when a deputy responded, no raccoons could be found.

June 27: 5:33 a.m. – Two deputies and a sergeant responded to a domestic dispute at a residence on East Main Street in Byron. Ty Russell Burbank, 47, was arrested for felony strangulation of a household member and misdemeanor domestic violence with bodily injury to a household member.

7:08 p.m. – Extra patrol was performed at the Cowley rodeo arena after a report of “suspicious activity in the area.” Everything appeared to be OK when a deputy responded to the site.

7:50 p.m. – Deputies assisted at the site of a downed power line on Wyoming 37 at the American Colloid/CETCO plant after a loader struck a support pole, which caused a power line to break. The line was lying across the highway.

June 28: 7:44 a.m. – A person helping move some items on East Third North in Cowley came across an engine that he feared might have been stolen. It was determined that the engine had not been stolen.

4:37 p.m. – Callers advised that the crossing arms were down across the railroad tracks at American Colloid on Wyoming 37 with no trains to be seen. The Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railroad was notified.

9:24 p.m. – A deputy checked on a vehicle that had broken down at Good2Go west of Lovell. Arrangements were being made to have the vehicle towed.

June 29: 1:36 a.m. – A deputy stopped to remove a dead deer out of the roadway. At that time a vehicle drove by at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was pulled over, and it was discovered that the driver appeared to be intoxicated. Jeffrey John Armstrong, 35, was arrested for careless driving, DUI and operating a vehicle while approaching a stopped law enforcement vehicle.

2:21 a.m. – A deputy noticed a vehicle parked at the Bull Pub in Cowley with an open door. The deputy shut the door.

2:12 p.m. – A deputy responded to West Main Street in Cowley after a report of a horse running loose. The owner had the horse corralled when the deputy got there.

4:22 p.m. – A caller from Powell reported missing a wallet after eating at the Bull Pub in Cowley but thought she had taken it from the restaurant. The Sheriff’s Office will keep an eye open for the missing item and will call if someone turns it in.

10:02 p.m. – A caller complained about a neighbor lighting off fireworks in the street on East Fifth Street North in Cowley. A deputy responded, but the show had ended.
