Sheriff report: Caller reports mountain lion near the Park County line

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of April 27-May 3:

April 27: 5:17 p.m. – A deputy assisted the Lovell Police Department with a warrant service attempt and arrest in Lovell.

April 28: 1:08 p.m. – A deputy assisted a driver from Pinedale with a dead battery on the highway in front of Rocky Mountain Middle/High School. After a successful jump start, the deputy advised the driver to not use 911 for this type of situation and instead use a non-emergency line.

4:23 p.m. – A Byron resident stated she had a fraudulent charge on her Verizon account, and the company requested a law enforcement report before Verizon would resolve the disputed charge.

April 29: 5:57 p.m. – A caller reported that cows from a neighboring place had been in his pasture for more than a week and had not had access to water during that time. A deputy was to follow up on the complaint.

April 30: 10:22 p.m. – A caller on Road 13½ near Lovell reported that her residential smoke alarm keeps going off, even after being reset. The Lovell Volunteer Fire Department checked the home and found no smoke or signs of fire, judging that the problem is with the alarm.

May 1: 12:50 p.m. – Several callers reported 10 or so cows out alongside the highway about five miles west of Byron on U.S. 14A. Both the sheriff’s office and Wyoming Highway Patrol were notified.

4:09 p.m. – A caller reported following a semi-tractor/trailer just south of Lovell on U.S. 310 that was speeding and swerving all over the road. The caller said he has a CDL and the trucker’s actions were “very disrespectful.” There was not a deputy in the area, so the Highway Patrol was notified.

7:04 p.m. – A caller issued a REDDI report regarding an older model grey Chevy with no visible license plate due to mud or dirt speeding at Road 17 and Highway 1A East. The call was referred to the Highway Patrol.

7:37 p.m. – A caller reported a black cow out southwest of Lovell on Wyoming 32. A deputy put the cow back where it belonged.

May 2: 10:59 a.m. – A caller said he bought a place on Riverview Avenue in Byron and that a car had been left on the property. He was advised that it was his responsibility to remove the car.

11:39 a.m. – An individual contacted Sgt. Jeff Angell and said she had seen a mountain lion near the Park County line on U.S. 14A west of Byron. The Wyoming Game and Fish was notified.

5:22 p.m. – A deputy came upon a stuck vehicle on the east side of the causeway at Big Horn Lake and helped work the vehicle free.

6:10 p.m.  – A Frannie area resident reported that his neighbor fired shots at his house, an action denied by the neighbor, in an ongoing dispute over livestock guard dogs coming onto a property.

10:24 p.m. – A caller reported a white SUV with Montana plates coming into Cowley from the west almost made them wreck. With no deputy in position to respond, the Highway Patrol was notified.

May 3: 7:44 a.m. – A caller reported livestock on the highway just northeast of Byron on 14A. A trooper heard the radio traffic and said he would respond.

Oralia Montanez Silva was arrested May 1 on a warrant for failure to pay.
