Sheriff report: Car hits the borrow ditch and disappears

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of Sept. 30-Oct. 6:

September 30: 11:27 a.m. – A driver called stating that a white dump truck driving westbound toward Byron from Lovell was unable to maintain a lane of travel and had a load that was unsecured. A deputy was advised.

3:42 p.m. – A reporting party driving from Cowley to Lovell called to say she saw two vehicles drag racing, with one of the vehicles continuing toward Lovell and the other turning right onto U.S. 14A toward Byron. A deputy was advised, and the Wyoming Highway Patrol was notified.

5:38 p.m. – A caller in Byron reported that a man in a gold car tried to run a lady over, and she got into the car with him that left the scene. A deputy made contact with the couple, who said they were fine and denied any altercation.

October 2: 5:48 p.m. – A caller reported a car traveling between Byron and the Park County line cross the center line, brake hard and enter the borrow ditch. The Highway Patrol was notified, and Lovell dispatch was notified to send EMS. A deputy also responded, but when emergency service arrived, the vehicle was gone.

7:56 p.m. – A young hunter was reported possibly lost in the Long Grain Draw area of the Bighorn National Forest, having been separated from his father and grandfather. Search and Rescue was mobilized, but as they drove to the scene, it was reported that the young man had found his way out.

9:12 p.m. – A deputy initiated a stop on a Honda four-wheeler on Lane 12 near Lovell. The officer called in a driver’s license check and was informed that the driver’s license was suspended until 2095, and he was required to use an interlock device until 2188. The driver also allegedly had a Keystone Light between his legs. Rodney Wade Armstrong of Lovell was arrested for driving while under suspension, driving without an interlock device, open container, having no valid registration, no compulsory auto insurance and failure to use a hand or arm signal.

October 4: 10:06 a.m. – A caller reported a neighbor’s dog was barking continuously, saying he didn’t want to complain, but things were getting out of hand. A deputy contacted the dog owner, who said the matter would be taken care of.

10:47 a.m. – A reporting party from Laramie stopped along U.S. 310 just outside of Cowley to pet a horse, then reported that the horses were emaciated and their trough dry. A deputy responded and was unable to determine a water source, then turned the matter over to the livestock board investigator.

2:38 p.m. – A lineman for a local power company was working on a power outage on Road 7 near Cowley when a man came out of his house and demanded that the lineman stop looking at his wife, which the lineman was not doing. The power company wanted the case to be documented in case something happened. The demanding man, Clarence Gordon Cliame, was arrested two days later for domestic violence with bodily injury.

October 5: 3:07 p.m. – A caller reported that his neighbor’s garbage was blowing onto his property. The neighbor was advised to secure the garbage.

5:09 p.m. – A call came in regarding a four-wheeler accident in the Darnell Hills east of Lovell. An adult male and female from Cowley reportedly rolled their vehicle into a ravine and needed to be medically evacuated. Search and Rescue personnel assisted with getting the patients into a North Big Horn Hospital ambulance for transportation to the hospital.

October 6: 12:52 p.m. – A caller reported that 15 to 20 goats had appeared on her property on Road 5.5 near Deaver. The caller said she knew who the goats belonged to, and a call was made to the owner, who said he would check it out when he got home.

7:31 p.m. – A larceny was reported on Lane 8.5 near Cowley. A man reported that his ex-stepson had broken into his camper and stolen a Wii gaming system. The case is under investigation.

Other arrests during the week were:

Marc Alan Cantrell of Thermopolis was arrested on a warrant out of Hot Springs County and was being held for the county sheriff from Thermop.

Cagney Renee Hetland of Byron was arrested on a bond revocation.

Roger Tye Marchant was arrested after warrants were checked upon his release from the Park County Jail, and it was found that there were warrants for his arrest in Big Horn County. He was arrested for failing to register as a sex offender and on a probation violation and bond revocation.

Note: The above calls were received by the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office. Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney.
