Sheriff report: Cat attack sends man to the hospital

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of January 5-11:

January 5: 3:26 p.m. – A door was found open on a building on Riverview Avenue in Byron. A deputy responded and found that the door had been secured.

5:42 p.m. – A caller driving on Wyoming Highway 32 at Road 9½ southeast of Byron reported that another vehicle struck a dog on the highway.

6:28 p.m. – In another dog call, a caller reported that a 9-month-old Rottweiler ran under a truck, may have been hit and took off, perhaps injured, on Lane 11½ near Lovell.

10:59 p.m. – A deputy assisted a citizen on East Shoshone Avenue in Byron who was worried that fugitive Anthony Pease may have been inside an unoccupied residence. The deputy cleared the home.

January 6: 3:51 p.m. – A caller reported that a Byron resident cutting wood on East Shoshone in Byron was piling the wood at the edge of and into the street. A town official and deputy spoke to the individual, who agreed to move the woodpile.

January 7: A North Big Horn Hospital employee reported that a patient that just arrived at the hospital had been checking traps on a private pheasant farm near Cowley when he was attacked by a large cat that bit him on the wrist. He fought off the cat and drove to the hospital for treatment. A deputy responded but was unable to locate the cat, and the bite victim did not know the type of cat that bit him.

12:01 p.m. – A pickup was reported stolen on Lane 8 near Cowley in an incident related to the Anthony Pease capture in Colorado. (See related story.)

5:42 p.m. – A deputy assisted a motorist in Frannie who had struck an owl, which was lodged in the front grill of the vehicle. The deputy removed the owl, which was deceased.

6:32 p.m. – A caller reported a silver Ford Explorer swerving shoulder to shoulder, unable to maintain a lane of travel on U.S. 310 near Frannie. A deputy was unable to locate the vehicle.

January 8: 10:24 p.m. – A caller reported that a neighbor’s two horses on Lane 5½ near Deaver had come onto their property and gotten into their feed barrels. The horses were gone when the deputy arrived, and the reporting party was advised to put up a camera for the recurring issue.

11:43 p.m. – A unoccupied silver vehicle parked alongside U.S. 310 about 13 miles south of Lovell was tagged as abandoned.

January 9: 3:39 p.m. – A deputy responded to the scene of a manure pile fire on the Crystal Creek Road southeast of Lovell.

January 10: 2:53 p.m. – A male who had been trespassed from the Cowley Mercantile was outside to fill his tank but was informed by a deputy that the order applied to the outside of the business as well as the inside, and he was asked to leave.

 January 11: 1:11 p.m. – The Sheriff’s Office was advised of a gas drive-off that had taken place at the Conoco Country Store in Lovell.

On January 9, Travis Kuhl of Lovell was arrested for a probation violation.
