Sheriff report: Deputies deal with cows, dogs, baby goats and even a mule

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of September 8-14:

September 8: 11:59 a.m. – A deputy came upon a broken-down vehicle west of Lovell on U.S. 14A/310, and the driver was already making arrangements for someone to come and get the vehicle.

4:30 p.m. – A deputy noticed cattle on Road 5 north of Byron and, with the area being open range, shooed the cattle off the road.

September 9: 1:15 p.m. – A caller said a black lab with a shock collar showed up at their house on Road 9 near Lovell and wanted dispatch to know in case someone called in about a missing dog.

3:18 p.m. – A caller reported receiving a scam call claiming his daughter had walked in on a drug deal and was kidnapped, but if he sent money, the daughter would be dropped off at the closest grocery store. He contacted his daughter, and she was fine. He simply wanted to document the scam.

5:14 p.m. – A traveler from Spokane, Washington, reported finding a “shepherd looking dog” but since the county has no animal facilities was directed to take the dog back where they found it.

9:07 p.m. – A caller on Road 11½ reported that an unknown dog was standing at the front door of their home. Since the dog had a tag, the owner was contacted and came to get the dog.

September 10: 1:22 a.m. – A deputy responded to the scene of a custody dispute on Center Street in Byron.

2:01 p.m. – A caller at the Wyoming 310 Restaurant in Deaver reported an older man lying on the ground next to a pickup, but he got up and drove north on Road 1. A deputy was unable to locate the vehicle.

3:04 p.m. – A woman reported losing a purse and seven boxes of ammunition near Lovell Lakes on U.S. 310. Deputies responded and found the purse, but the report had no mention of the ammo.

4:14 p.m. – Deputies responded to a report of a suburban that had driven off the road and into a field at U.S. 14A and Road 15 east of Lovell. The driver reported hitting a bale of hay on the road, which caused him to lose control.

4:53 p.m. – The driver of a vehicle hauling hay related to the above case reported that the driver who left the road had hit his vehicle.

5:30 p.m. – Mario Luis Garcia of Lovell was arrested on a hold request from Probation and Parole.

September 11: 3:46 a.m. -  A deputy responded to the scene of six or seven black cows loose at Lane 13 and Road 10½ near Lovell. He put the cows back in their pasture.

6:42 a.m. – The cows were out again on Lane 13. A brand inspector was called and identified the owner, who was contacted by the sheriff’s office and responded to put the cows away again.

4:30 p.m. – A caller said a friend of his was on his property, but he didn’t want him there when he was intoxicated. A deputy responded and spoke to the unwanted guest at his own home and informed him that his friend didn’t want him to return unless he was sober.

6:11 p.m. – A REDDI report was called in regarding a vehicle west of Byron that could not maintain a lane of travel, was speeding up and slowing down and almost hit two cars. The Wyoming Highway Patrol was contacted.

September 12: 10:18 a.m. – A deputy responded to the scene of baby goats loose on West Yellowstone Avenue in Byron. The goats had slipped under a fence. A deputy helped round up the kids.

11:17 a.m. – A deputy came across a rocking chair on the highway at the Shoshone River Bridge west of Lovell just as the driver who had lost the chair off a vehicle turned around to retrieve it.

7:58 p.m. – A caller reported seeing the flames of a possible wildland fire just south of Frannie on U.S. 310. Lovell dispatch was notified and contacted the Deaver-Frannie Fire Department.

Conrad Nagel Richardson Reddin of Cowley was arrested for possession of a weapon with deadly intent, domestic violence, strangulation of a household member and aggravated assault and battery.

September 13: 6:51 a.m. – A caller requested assistance in dealing with an unwanted female he didn’t want to return to his house on East Shoshone Avenue in Byron.

8:40 a.m. – A caller reported seeing power lines touching on Blue Hill south of Lovell. Rocky Mountain Power was notified.

12:36 p.m. – A caller reported a mule loose on Main Street in Byron, noting that the mule had run into a yard. The Wyoming Highway Patrol responded.

September 14: 10:41 a.m. – A caller asked if anyone had found a black and white shorthair female dog lost between Powell and Deaver the previous day, saying the family had combed the area looking for the dog.

5:45 p.m. – A deputy responded to the scene of a verbal dispute between a husband and wife in Cowley.

Note: The above calls were received by the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office. Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney.
