Sheriff report: Deputy provides emergency escort to state line

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of May 4-10:

May 4: 12:43 p.m. – A deputy checked on a car with expired plates on West Main in Byron, letting the owner know that the car cannot remain unlicensed on a state highway.

5:59 p.m. – A female caller from the Deaver area reported that complained that her neighbors’ dogs were being aggressive to her and her grandchildren. Deputies spoke to the neighbors and informed them they could be cited for having a vicious animal.

 May 5: 7:06 p.m. – The Sheriff’s Office called back after a 911 hangup, and the party said their father had fallen, but everything was OK, and no ambulance was needed.

May 6: 1:52 a.m. – A deputy made a traffic stop on West Main in Lovell for speeding, and the driver said she was trying to get to Billings because her mother had been life-flighted. The deputy gave her an escort to the state line.

May 7: 11:55 a.m. – A caller said he hit a utility line he had been told was abandoned on property he had recently purchased west of Byron and needed a law enforcement report for insurance.

May 8: 8:02 a.m. – A caller reported a single black bull loose at Highway 32 and Road 6 near Byron. The Wyoming Highway Patrol was advised.

11:51 p.m. – A deputy assisted the Lovell Police Department after a man was reported lying in the street at Third and Nevada, perhaps intoxicated. He was tended to by family.

May 9: 2 a.m. – A deputy checked on an apparent abandoned vehicle east of Lovell near Miller’s Fabrication and found it to have a flat tire.

3:52 p.m. – A caller reported finding a dog that had broken free east of Lovell near the BPM plant during a thunderstorm and wanted to let dispatch know in case anyone called to say they were looking for a dog, described as black with spots and brown eyes.

May 10: 9:45 a.m. – Dispatch was alerted that approximately 200 cows were being moved via U.S. 14A to Wyoming Highway 37 east of Lovell, with flaggers in front of and behind the herd.

2:04 p.m. Two females from Cody reported that their pickup was buried in the mud in the Yellowtail Wildlife Habitat Management Area east of Lovell as they were attempting to go fishing. They got a ride home and called a tow company to remove the vehicle.

8:50 p.m. – Cows were reported out about two miles south of Lovell on U.S. 310. The owner was contacted.

Deputies also assisted at the scene of a Franz bread truck crash on the southeast edge of Cowley in an incident where the driver apparently suffered a medical event and drove off the highway. He was found deceased early Monday morning. No further details were available pending a highway patrol investigation.
