Sheriff report: Dogs wreak havoc after getting into free range chickens
The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of September 15-21:
September 15: 11:53 a.m. – A caller reporting livestock on Road 5 between Byron and Cowley was informed that the area is open range.
1:03 p.m. – A large amount of clumped dirt was causing traffic to swerve on Highway 32 southwest of Lovell. WyDOT was called to scrape the dirt off the road.
September 16: 10:56 a.m. – A caller reported a cat on top of a power pole about five miles east of Lovell on U.S. 14A. Subsequent calls came in at 4:08 and 7:24 p.m. The callers were informed that there was nothing the sheriff’s office could do, that the cat will have to “figure it out.”
September 17: 9:49 a.m. – A caller reported that two dogs had gotten into her son’s free-range chickens on Road 11 near Lovell, killing or injuring at least two, with some 26 of the birds missing. Deputies helped the woman look around the area for the chickens, which could not be found. A deputy planned to talk to the dog owner.
5:59 p.m. – A caller reported a “nice looking orange, white and blue” snowmobile on the side of the road on Road 5 between Byron and Cowley. A deputy responded, but the snowmobile was no longer there.
7:26 p.m. – A caller reported a missing black Lab near Lovell, saying the dog has no collar but comes to the name Lou. The caller wanted the sheriff’s office to know in case someone found the dog.
8:37 p.m. – Deputies assisted Park County deputies on the west side of Frannie with the eviction of a squatter living in a house.
September 18: 7:38 a.m. – A deputy assisted with a K9 search of material at the Lovell Police Department.
6:49 p.m. – Deputies assisted the Lovell Police Dept. with the arrest of Tim DeFuentes, 34, of Lovell on domestic charges.
September 19: 11:15 a.m. – A deputy spotted two dogs running loose in Byron but couldn’t catch them.
September 20: 3:31 p.m. – A deputy removed wood from the road about 13 miles east of Lovell on U.S. 14A.
11:26 p.m. – A caller contacted a deputy directly regarding a suspicious woman on a West Main sidewalk in Cowley.
September 21: 12:58 p.m. – A citizen in Byron talked to a deputy about a wedding in Byron, with the citizen worried that a person would cause problems at the wedding.
7:09 p.m. – A caller reported an intoxicated individual crawling in a yard on West Main in Byron. A deputy responded, and no one could be found.
Note: The above calls were received by the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office. Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney.
