Sheriff report: Off-duty sheriff’s deputy assists individual with broken ankle

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of August 31-September 6:

August 31: 9 a.m. – A caller said he had an old washer he would like to get rid of and asked for contact information on a local scrap metal dealer. Information was provided.

September 1: 10:03 a.m. – An employee of the North Big Horn County Landfill reported that a man dumped items at the landfill but did not pay the fee. A deputy made contact with the individual, who said he would make it good the following day when he got paid.

3:26 p.m. – A caller reported that someone had tried to scam his checking account but said he gave out no information and contacted his bank.

5:04 p.m. – A deputy assisted with traffic control at the scene of a broken-down vehicle at Montana and Main in Lovell.

September 2: 12 a.m. – A caller reported lights flashing on a tank at the Marathon Oil Field west of Byron. Dispatch was unable to reach anyone with the company.

7:26 a.m. – A deputy removed lumber from the roadway near Rocky Mountain Middle/High School in Cowley.

7:48 a.m. – A caller reported a grey Nissan Rogue speeding on the Cannery Road and heading into Lovell. A deputy made contact with the teenage driver at Lovell High School and spoke to her about her driving.

7:44 p.m. – A caller reported kids riding on an ATV in Deaver. A deputy was unable to locate the kids.

September 3: 9:46 a.m. – A caller reported that his border collie wearing the “cone of shame” after recent surgery was missing but was alerted by neighbors a short time later that they had the dog.

5:52 p.m. – A deputy assisted the Lovell Police Department with a shoplifting investigation at Family Dollar.

September 4: 12:57 p.m. – A call regarding a dispute between a boyfriend and girlfriend on Road 11 was transferred to the LPD.

8:24 p.m. – A deputy took someone who had broken an ankle to Highway 14A to meet an ambulance. The good Samaritan was Deputy Brandon Jolley, who was recreating on the Big Horns and used his personal vehicle for the transport.

September 5: 9:55 a.m. – A caller who dialed 911 complained of about 50 bicyclists heading up Highway 14A and into the Big Horn Mountains, wondering if the group had a permit.

10:46 a.m. – A deputy provided traffic control for a rancher to move cows on the highway three miles west of Byron.

6:40 p.m. – In a reported case of road rage, the Lovell Police Department referred a call about a driver heading from Byron to Lovell braking in front of the reporting party, then speeding up. There were no deputies in the area to assist.

7:40 p.m. – Deputies checked on a report of a domestic dispute on East Second in Lovell. A female made arrangements to stay with friends in Powell for the night.

8:07 p.m. – A caller reported that two motorcyclists had flipped him off as they passed him in Montana and were heading into Wyoming. The call was referred to the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

September 6: 10:33 a.m. – A caller requested a ride to their truck after their side-by-side broke down just above Five Springs on the west side of the Big Horns, but a private citizen then stopped to assist.

11:47 a.m. – After a call about suspected animal abuse on Lane 7 near Deaver, a deputy checked on the reported dogs and found them to have adequate food, water and shelter.
