Sheriff report: Going to pet a cat, girl bitten by dog

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of July 28-August 3:

July 28: 10:08 a.m. – A caller reported a semi pulling a flatbed trailer hauling pallets swerving all over the road about 13 miles south of Lovell on U.S. 310. Deputies were unable to locate the truck.

3:48 p.m. – North Big Horn Hospital reported that a little girl had jumped a fence in Byron to pet a cat, and a dog bit her. Her mother took her to the hospital, and she was treated and released.

6:35 p.m. – A man was hauling his kids’ animals to the fair when the trailer came off the hitch about three miles south of Lovell on U.S. 310. He hooked the trailer back on and continued on his way.

6:48 p.m. – Deputies responded to a report from a caller of a “massive fire” at her parents’ home on Wyoming 32 southwest of Byron, said to be “spreading rapidly” to a building containing hay bales and goats but not threatening the home at that time. The animals were safely removed, and the Lovell Volunteer Fire Department responded to the Bobby and Ruby Anderson place to extinguish the flames.

6:53 p.m. – Deputies assisted in escorting the state champion Lovell Mustangs Legion baseball team through town and on to Cowley.

July 29: 3:11 p.m. – A deputy moved an undefined “traffic hazard” from the highway near Deaver.

5:53 p.m. – A caller reported being behind “a drunk driver swerving all over the road” near Deaver, stating that the black Chevy SUV was heading south on U.S. 310. The Wyoming Highway Patrol and Lovell Police Department were notified.

July 30: 4:24 p.m. – A REDDI report was called in from Byron of a Green Suburban with Park County plates speeding through Byron and swerving “all over the road.” A deputy followed the vehicle to the hospital in Lovell.

5:50 p.m. – A caller from Deaver reported a dirt bike and a two-seat ATV “racing around Deaver.” A deputy located the kids and informed their grandparents that they were not allowed to drive the vehicles without a license.

7:12 p.m. – A deputy responded to mediate a verbal dispute between a landowner’s granddaughter and woman living on the property near Byron on Wyoming Highway 32. 

July 31: 9:18 a.m. – A caller reported a German shepherd lying next to the highway on Wyoming 32 southwest of Byron. A deputy patrolled the highway from Emblem to Lovell and did not see a dog.

10:10 a.m. – A caller reported persons defecating and urinating “wherever they want” at Porcupine Campground and harassing the campground host. The call was referred to the U.S. Forest Service, and a ranger was to respond as soon as possible.

10:26 a.m. – A caller reported a silver Nissan Rogue west of Lovell “traveling in all lanes” with the driver possibly drinking. A deputy patrolled to the Montana state line and did not see the vehicle.

2:56 p.m. – A deputy reported a yield sign bent over in Byron after being struck by a vehicle. The Town of Byron was notified.

4:18 p.m. – A deputy assisted as a man changed a tire in Frannie.

4:28 p.m. – A vehicle with expired plates parked at the Byron Cemetery was tagged for removal and was gone by the next day.

August 1: 9:41 p.m. – A cow and calf out near Bairco on Road 7 were put back in their pasture by a deputy.

August 2: 1:08 p.m. – A caller reported that a mini Aussie dog had been missing since that morning and wanted to leave a number in case someone reported finding the dog.

3:27 p.m. – A report of a truck passing in a no-passing zone east of Lovell in the area of a chip-sealing project was referred to the Highway Patrol.

10:58 p.m. – Sheriff Ken Blackburn assisted a motorist in changing a flat tire just west of Cowley on U.S. 310.

August 3: A report was called in regarding a protection order violation near Byron. The incident is under investigation.

Note: The above calls were received by the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office. Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney.
