Sheriff report: Good Samaritan pulls beet truck out of ditch with tractor
The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of Nov. 25-Dec. 1:
November 25: 2:24 p.m. – A caller reported watching a dog for someone and the dog had run off on Saturday. The missing dog was a Jack Russell terrier with a faded orange collar.
3:46 p.m. – The sheriff’s office assisted the Lovell Police Department with a domestic call on Washakie Avenue in Lovell.
4:48 p.m. – A deputy stopped to assist a motorist stopped alongside U.S. 310 near Deaver. The driver reported that he had “blown a fan belt” and that someone was coming to help.
5:54 and 6:23 p.m. – Deputies responded to two deer vs. car accidents, the first on Wyoming Highway 32 south of Byron and the second on U.S. 310 at Road 5 near Deaver. Both calls were transferred to the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
November 26: 9:11 a.m. – A male black mouth cur dog named Earl was reported missing for three days. The dog is mostly yellow with some white, including a white face, and wearing no collar.
4:38 p.m. – A REDDI report was called in regarding a small red car on U.S. 310 west of Deaver with no headlights and unable to maintain speed. It was reported that the car passed into Park County.
November 27: 3:28 p.m. – A deputy came upon a man alongside the Sand Hills Road (Road 5) between Cowley and Deaver near Frog Rock. The man said he was waiting for his wife to pick him up.
5:28 p.m. – A caller reported that a deer had “walked into her car” on U.S. 310 near Good 2 Go. There were no injuries and very little damage to the car. The deer ran away.
7:06 p.m. – Justin Allen Foster was arrested at his home on Highway 32 southwest of Byron for domestic assault and interference with a police officer.
7:48 p.m. – A woman called to report that her car had been stolen, but the incident was civil in nature. Her husband had her car.
November 28: There were four livestock calls to keep deputies busy on Thanksgiving Day: a report of a single cow out near Byron, a report of four or five goats out near Cowley, multiple cows out near Byron and cows jumping the fence near Byron.
November 29: 11:59 a.m. – Deputies responded to a report of a beet truck rollover on the Cannery Road (Road 7). According to the report, Cindy Noble was driving a truck hauling beet pulp when she reported looking down to shift and the truck ran off the road and became stuck. There were no injuries, but a tow truck was needed. None was available, but a good Samaritan used a tractor to pull the truck out of the ditch.
November 30: 10:49 a.m. – The North Search and Rescue squad was called to the Yellowtail Habitat Unit for an attempt to rescue dogs that had fallen through the ice on Pond 6 (see related story).
Marc Alan Cantrell of Cowley was arrested on a warrant out of Park County for a bond violation and was transported to the county line to meet a Park County deputy.
December 1: 5:14 p.m. – A woman reported that she had hit a deer on Highway 32 between Lovell and Byron. There was no road blockage, and the vehicle was drivable, though there was one headlight out. She said she was reporting the collision for insurance purposes.
Note: The above calls were received by the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office. Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney.
