Sheriff report: High winds wreak havoc in the area last Wednesday
The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of April 14-20:
April 14: 12:53 a.m. – An elderly female with a Texas driver’s license called asking for assistance in changing a flat tire on a trailer she was towing about two miles west of Cowley on U.S. 310. A deputy responded and rendered assistance.
5:55 p.m. – A dark brown horse was reportedly running free alongside U.S. 14A west of Byron. The owner was contacted and was able to collect the horse.
April 15: 2:46 p.m. – A deputy assisted the Lovell Police Department at the scene of a dispute between neighbors on Nevada Avenue in Lovell.
April 16: 4:14 p.m. – A yellow Lab with a blue and gray collar was reported missing on Road 11½ just south of Lovell.
With high winds whipping the area, deputies assisted at the scene of numerous fires in the area including a fire just west of Cowley at 7:11 p.m. and east of Lovell on U.S. 14A and Road 13 at 7:28 p.m.
11:19 p.m. – A driver reported running over a road construction sign that had blown into the southbound lane of traffic on U.S. 310 near Deaver. A deputy responded and removed the sign.
April 17: 1:05 a.m. – A semi-truck driver ran into debris from road construction that blew onto the highway about three miles south of Frannie on U.S. 310, damaging the air lines of the truck. A deputy responded, and the driver said he had called for a mechanic.
10:10 a.m. – A woman in Byron reported that her two dogs were missing – a mostly brown male Husky with an orange collar and a female Husky mix that resembles a Yellow Lab.
April 18: 11:08 a.m. – An automated report of a severe crash turned out to be a cell phone that had fallen off a pickup on U.S. 14A just east of Lovell. Fire trucks and deputies responded, looking for the crash.
11:45 a.m. – A caller from Frannie reported that he had purchased a repo vehicle at an auction and the vehicle had drug paraphernalia in it. A deputy responded and collected a bag containing a THC vape pen and a pipe with burned marijuana residue.
1:10 p.m. – A deputy investigated a report of a suspicious vehicle parked at the All American Sports Bar at the Oasis Junction west of Lovell for more than five days and was told by the building owner that the owner of the vehicle had permission to park there while carpooling.
4:46p.m. – A report of an abandoned vehicle parked on Road 5 just north of Byron near the cemetery turned out to be someone parked at the site while walking a dog.
April 19: 5:29 p.m. – A deputy assisted at the scene of a backhoe on fire on Lane 6 near Cowley. The backhoe owner/operator was digging a trench, smelled smoke and got out of the equipment, which was quickly engulfed by the fire.
April 20: 8:06 p.m. – A treasure hunter from Georgia driving a rental car got stuck in the mud on the Gypsum Creek Road north of Cowley and called to request a tow truck. A truck responded and pulled the vehicle free.
