Sheriff report: Truck driver nearly hits G-P employee

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of September 1-7:

September 1: 4:17 p.m. – A missing hunter near the Bucking Mule Trailhead in the Bighorn National Forest was reported, but the wayward hunter made contact with his party five minutes later.

8:01 p.m. – A caller from Cowley reported that a neighbor’s horses were eating the caller’s hay. A deputy responded, but the neighbor had already returned the horses to their rightful home.

9:43 p.m. – A caller reported a verbal domestic dispute in the parking lot of the Wyoming 310 Restaurant in Deaver. Deputies arrived and found that the reported party was arguing with his mother on the phone.

September 2: 7:13 a.m. – A caller on Road 12½ near Lovell asked a deputy to come and look at a fence his neighbor had torn down. A deputy responded and informed the caller that the issue was a civil matter.

September 3: 10:12 a.m. – A caller reported that their neighbor’s pigs were on their property on Lane 5½ near Deaver. A deputy informed the owner of the pigs that he needed to take care of the pigs or he would be cited for livestock at large.

2:56 p.m. – A caller from the Georgia-Pacific plant asked how to handle a truck driver who would not follow safety rules at the plant and, when confronted nearly struck an employee as he left. The sheriff’s office is reviewing witness statements and video in the investigation.

6:29 p.m. – A bull was reported loose along Wyoming 32 south of Byron. The Wyoming Highway Patrol was notified.

September 4: 7:30 p.m. – Deputies assisted the Lovell Police Department with a possible domestic incident at the Lovell Apartments.

September 5: 10:13 a.m. – A disturbance was reported at the Deaver Irrigation District office. A man in the dispute at that location was cited for breach of peace.

2:28 p.m. – A caller reported a dog at large on Lane 9 near Deaver but was informed that the animal was a livestock guard dog and should not be approached.

4:35 p.m. – A deputy removed a tire from the highway near Good2Go west of Lovell.

6:07 p.m. – A caller in Deaver reported that three dogs living next door were “barking all the time” and that he had asked his neighbor about the situation several times. A deputy offered to talk to the neighbor about the dogs, but the caller said he would talk to the neighbor’s property owners.

September 6: 11:31 a.m. – A deputy removed debris from the highway on U.S. 14A southwest of Lovell.

11:40 p.m. – A deputy checked on a car that had broken down and had been parked at the Byron Cemetery north of town for days. The owner was identified and asked to remove the car.

September 7: 12:01 a.m. – A caller advised that his vehicle had broken down in Deaver and he needed a tow. He was given the number of a tow company. He asked for a ride to Manderson but was told deputies do not give rides. He even asked if Sheriff Blackburn could give him a ride and was denied.

9:38 a.m. – A caller reported four black cows out just west of Byron, but when a deputy responded, the cows could not be found.

10:51 a.m. – A landlord in Frannie called about two tenants who were constantly at odds with each other. A deputy advised the landlord about the criminal trespass process.

6:54 p.m. – Law enforcement officials from Carbon County, Montana, reported a domestic incident during which a female had been “kicked out of the car.” Not finding the woman, Carbon County referred the call to the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office. The male driving the car was soon located in Lovell, and the female had also gotten a ride. When contacted, the female did not want to press charges.
