Sheriff report: Worm dump ruins outing for boater

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of March 16-22:

March 16: 8:53 a.m. – A caller in Byron reported a man in a dark hoodie in front of the park. The man is a citizen of Byron who lives near the park.

1:37 p.m. – A deputy checked on a report of a damaged stop sign at Lane 13 and Road 9 near the golf course that had been damaged by a truck that pulled the sign out of the ground. The truck driver attempted to put the sign back into place. Road and Bridge was notified.

5:04 p.m. – A deputy returned a loose cow to its pasture a mile northeast of Byron and tied up the gate.

7:46 p.m. – A neighbor reported hearing a fight next door in Frannie. A deputy responded and found a brother and sister arguing. They said everything was fine.

March 17: 12:10 a.m. – Deputies responded to assist at the scene of a fire on the Gypsum Creek Road north of Lovell.

5:08 p.m. – A caller reported that a cattle truck almost ran her off the road trying to pass her. The Wyoming Highway Patrol was advised.

March 18: 5:49 a.m. – A caller advised that a truck had slid off the highway about eight miles south of Lovell on U.S. 310 near the Georgia-Pacific turnoff. The driver spoke Russian but very little English and was driving from Montana to Utah. The Wyoming Highway Patrol investigated the incident.

March 19: 5:10 p.m. – A mother called to report that her son in the Byron area had a firearm, and she was concerned for his safety. Timothy Brian Bates of Greybull was arrested for breach of peace, reckless endangerment, interference with a police officer and aggravated burglary.

5:49 p.m. – A Powell man operating a boat on Big Horn Lake about 15 miles north of Barry’s Landing started to dump worms over the side of the boat and leaned on the throttle, causing the boat to run into the canyon wall, injuring his arm. The boat was taking on water, and Search and Rescue was called, but he was able to motor to a dock, and the search was called off.

March 20: 10:36 a.m. – A manager at Good 2 Go reported that a car had been parked at the store for at least a week. A deputy responded to tag the vehicle.

March 21: 5:29 p.m. – Deputies responded to fires north of Lovell on Road 16, near Frannie and in the Yellowtail Wildlife Habitat Management Area.

March 22: 7:03 a.m. – A deputy performed traffic control at the causeway on U.S. 14A during the Kane Fire.
