Shorthanded LMS squad places many in Shoshoni
After a meet in Cody Thursday was cancelled due to expected bad weather, the Lovell Middle School track and field team instead traveled to the Shoshoni Invitational on Saturday.
At this meet, seventh and eighth graders competed against each other in the middle school division while sixth graders competed against fifth graders from other schools in the youth division.
Due to the change in schedule, many of the middle school athletes were unable to attend the Shoshoni meet, coaches said.
Lovell eighth grader Garrett Henley placed second in the 400-meter dash, securing his placing with a run of 59.01. Henley had a successful day over at the jumps, placing fifth in the long jump and first in the triple jump. Henley leaped 36-5.5 to secure his win in the triple jump.
In the throws, Landen Peterson placed fourth in the discus with Landon Asay close behind in fifth. Peterson also placed fourth in the shot put.
Other Lovell eighth-grade boys results (top 10) were:
Triple jump- Landon Asay sixth; discus- Alexander Mcillwaine ninth.
Eighth grader Oakley Anderson placed third in three events at Shoshoni. In the 100-meter dash, Anderson ran 13.59, and her third-place time in the 100-meter hurdles was 18.10. In the 200-meter dash, Anderson ran 28.91. She also placed eighth in the long jump.
Other Lovell eighth-grade girls results (top 10) were:
100m- Oakley Bischoff 10th; 100m hurdles- Janelle Asay fourth; 200m hurdles- Asay ninth; pole vault- Bischoff fourth; discus- Taylor Henderson fifth.
Lovell seventh-grade boys results (top 10) were:
100m- James Sanders seventh, Brhysan Henton 10th; high jump- Henton eighth.
In the seventh-grade girls division, Nellie Guccion and Chloe Asay were top placers. Guccion placed second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:06.87. She also placed fourth in long jump. In the 800-meter run, Asay won the event, placing first with a time of 2:45.28.
Other Lovell seventh-grade girls results (top 10) were:
Long jump- MaKynna Mayes fifth, Gemma Walker ninth; triple jump- Walker fifth.
Sixth grader James Henderson had two high placing events in Shoshoni. In the 100-meter dash, Henderson placed second, running a 14.47. Henderson won the 200-meter hurdles with the time of 32.99.
Hayden Harshman had a successful meet with four top finishes. Harshman placed fourth in the 200-meter hurdles. Later in long jump, Harshman jumped 14-0.5 to put him in first place for this event. Harshman went on to place second in the triple jump with a leap of 28-7.5 and third in shot put, throwing 27-11.
Adam Hill also placed high in the throws, placing sixth in discus and throwing 32-3.5 in shot put to win the event.
Other Lovell sixth-grade boys results (top 10) were:
100m- Luke Bischoff seventh, Konner Seitz eighth, Abiel Torres 10th; 200m- Seitz fifth, Torres ninth; 800m- Jamen Crosby third; 1,600m- Crosby fourth; long jump- Bischoff fifth; shot put- Jace Jameson fifth.
Sixth grader Blakely Piper had three first place finishes in her events this weekend. In the 100-meter dash, Piper ran 13.42, and in the 100-meter hurdles she ran 19.28. Piper also won the 200-meter dash, running 27.68.
Charlize Hessenthaler showed up on the podium a few times in this meet, as well. Hessenthaler placed second in the 100-meter dash, running a 14.37. She also placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.55. A jump of 13-0.5 placed Hessenthaler in first place in the long jump event.
Kashlyn Collins placed third in rule 100-meter hurdles, running a 21.64. Collins placed first in the 200-meter hurdles with the time of 37.38. Collins also placed second in long jump, leaping 12-8.
Other Lovell sixth-grade girls results (top 10) were:
200m- Maci Brown fourth, Paizley Cliame eighth; long jump- Kamilia Garcia 10th.
Weather permitting, the next meet the middle school Bulldogs will attend is tomorrow (Friday, April 24) at Rocky Mountain Middle/High School in Cowley. Action begins at 1 p.m.
