Special district filing begins next Wednesday
The filing period for those interested in serving on a school board, hospital board or other special district board opens next Wednesday, Aug. 5, and prospective candidates have until the end of the business day on Monday, Aug. 24, to throw their hat in the ring.
School board candidates file with the Big Horn County Clerk’s office, and all others file with their respective district secretary.
Expiring seats and current office holders in North Big Horn County are as follows:
School boards
There are three seats coming open on the Big Horn County School District No. 1 Board of Trustees, seats currently held by Thomas Bridges (designated Cowley seat), Craig Jones (Burlington seat), Hiedi Christensen (at large) and Holly Michaels (at large), who was recently appointed to the board after the death of chairman Josh Bassett. Bridges was appointed following the resignation of David Banks.
Seats held by Wendy Fuller, AJ Dickson (Byron seat) and Jared Boardman (Deaver-Frannie seat) run through 2028.
Three seats are coming open on the Lovell (District 2) school board held by Bruce Jolley, Marianne Grant and Danny Jolley. Seats held by Stacy Bair, Lance Anderson, Tyler Angell and Kyle Leithead run through 2028.
Hospital board
The North Big Horn Hospital Board has four seats up for election currently held by Bruce Morrison and Todd Simmons (at large), Brett Crosby (Byron-Cowley seat) and Garret Frescoln (Deaver-Frannie seat). Seats held by David Winterholler, Max Lewis and Pat Crumrine expire in 2028.
Also coming open are seats on other special district boards: the Shoshone Conservation District board, the Fire Protection District No. 1 and District No. 5 boards and the North Big Horn County Senior Citizens District Board.
The special district seats are non-partisan and will be elected at the general election on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
