Tigers top Dodgers to win Majors tournament

A pair of teams from Lovell were the top seeds heading into the Majors Interleague Tournament that combined Big Horn County Little League and Powell Little League teams last week, and they proved their seeding by playing for the title.

Both the top-seeded Tigers and the second-seeded Dodgers received a first-round bye as four other teams – the Powell Padres, Powell Dodgers, Greybull and Powell Orioles – played first-round games Tuesday in Powell, with the Powell Dodgers and Orioles coming out on top.

In Thursday’s semifinals, the Tigers topped the Powell Dodgers 6-2 as Hayden Harshman threw 20 pitches as the starter on the mound and Hawk Hecker finished up, each allowing one run, head coach Nicc Crosby said.

Gus Guccion and Harshman each went 3-3 at the plate with a double, Logan Timpany 2-2, Spencer Walker 1-2 and Jace Grant 1-3.

The Lovell Dodgers defeated the Powell Orioles 10-1 in the other semifinal Thursday evening. Coach Jonathan Morgan said the Dodgers scored four in the first inning and six in the third to put the game away. James Henderson threw 1 1/3 innings as the starter and went 2-2 at the plate. Luke Bischoff finished the game, throwing 2 1/3 innings. Cayden Dickerson and Jace Jameson hit RBI singles in the game.

Championship game

With both teams being from Lovell, the championship game was moved to the Northeast Little League fields Friday, and the Tigers edged the Dodgers 4-1.

The Dodgers scored their only run in the top of the first inning when Henderson came home, but Harshman blanked them the rest of the way, throwing five innings, with Timpany picking up the save in the sixth.

The Tigers scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the fourth. Guccion started the rally with a one-out single and stole second, Crosby said, and Hecker singled to put runners at the corners, then moved to second on a wild pitch. Harshman drove both in and advanced to second, then moved to third on a fielder’s choice out by Timpany. Walker drew a walk and moved to second, Austin Grandalen drove in Harshman, and Walker scored on a wild pitch.

Jameson started and threw 3 2/3 innings for the Dodgers. Kooper May finished up, throwing 1 1/3 innings.

Dickerson, Jameson, Luke and Lane Bischoff and Nathan Croft had one hit each for the Dodgers.

All-star season

All-star teams have been formed, and Lovell will host the Stars and Stripes Tournament this weekend at the Northeast fields. For the Majors, pool play will be held Friday, with teams seeded into a bracket for Saturday’s games. Lovell will play Powell at 11 a.m. Friday and Cody at 3 p.m. Also competing in the four-team event is Lander. Saturday games will be played at 9 and 11 a.m. and 1 and 3 p.m.

The district tournament for the Majors is July 8-12 in Pinedale. Big Horn (Lovell) will meet Tri Basin (Big Piney) July 8 at 6 p.m. and Afton July 9 at 6 p.m. in pool play. Teams will then be seeded into a bracket on Friday through Sunday, July 10-12. Also in the tournament are Rock Springs, Riverton, Powell, Cody, Lander, Bridger Valley, Pinedale and Green River.
