Volunteers sought for Sand Draw Cemetery cleanup

The Lovell-Kane Area Museum is hosting a Sand Draw Cemetery cleanup day on Saturday, Oct. 12. The museum recently acquired ownership of the cemetery and is looking for volunteers to help with “sprucing up” the grounds, museum board president Karen Spragg said.

The oldest grave in the cemetery belongs to John Wesley Cook, who was buried in 1893, Spragg said. There are currently 19 graves identified, belonging to some of the pioneers who helped settle this area.

“We greatly appreciate those who are willing to lend a hand,” Spragg said. “Volunteers will meet at the Lovell-Kane Area Museum just before 1 p.m. and head out to the cemetery from there. Cleanup is from 1 to 4 p.m. Volunteers are welcome to join us at the cemetery at any point during that time.”
