What happened to our beautiful license plates?

I’m still on the mend, and mostly I have short-term memory loss as well as long-term, but each new day brings an adventure. I can hear something, but by the next day, that thought is gone so I treat each day as a new day.

One of my main concerns nowadays is - What happened to beautiful Wyoming? It started early this year with the new license plates. We have always had nice looking license plates which reflect on the beauty of Wyoming, but are we now entering the dark side?

We had colorful license plates with the horse and rider, with Devil Tower and just plain enjoyable plates adorning our vehicles. And such colors -- blue skies, green grass. You can almost smell the fresh air. When you think of Wyoming, there are so many beautiful places to be put on the plate such as Yellowstone and the geysers and so many other places there that would look cool on our plates. Thermopolis and the hot springs. Medicine Bow. The old jail in Rawlins, Crazy Woman, the Grand Tetons, and the list goes on and on.

But what did we get? Black license plates. Or are they grey/gray? No, wait, are they dark blue? And you can’t see much of anything else. When you look at the vehicle, instead of colorful Wyoming, it is now a black hole with some white letters. Nothing colorful there. It makes you wonder how they could do such a change with all that Wyoming has to offer.

Was this the governor’s idea? Are we stuck with plates for years now? Is this someone’s idea of how to destroy Wyoming? Did they think, “If we make the plates ugly, whenever someone sees them, they’ll think Wyoming is just an ugly state and they’ll stay away?” So much for the tourist dollars that help support our towns.

I’m surprised that I haven’t heard, “Oh, that’s Wyoming, look how ugly it is.” Oh, wait, yes, I have heard that. What is it, four years or eight years, before we can change the plates back to being beautiful? It is bad enough to see monster homes being built to house those from California, but to take away our plates? I wonder if it’s OK to paint my license plate and add some colors.

That’s all for this concern as I try to live with such an ugly design. It makes you wonder if someone from out of state thought it was a good idea.
