William Frank Hovis Jr.

William “Bill” Frank Hovis Jr. died at the Douglas Care Center in Douglas on Jan. 6, 2016, and cremation has taken place. Bill was born June 3, 1935, in Lovell, the son of William and Wilma (Hoersch) Hovis Sr.He grew up and received his early education in Lovell, graduating high school in 1953. He attended the University of Wyoming for four years, graduating there in 1957 with a bachelor of science degree in engineering. He married Alice Elaine Bergslien on Dec. 20, 1955, in Lovell. They lived for a year in Colorado before moving to Casper, where he worked in the petroleum industry for 50 years. They moved to Torrington in November of 2008.Bill was a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, an Associate Member of the Wyoming Geological Association, a member of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers and a member of Kiwanis. He enjoyed playing golf and woodworking.Bill is survived by his wife Elaine of Torrington; sons John (Terri) Hovis of Phoenix and Jim (Kriss) Hovis of LaGrange, Wyo.; sister Michal Gene West of Manville, Wyo.; brother Daniel (Ruth) Hovis of Arizona; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Julie Baldwin; granddaughter Jesi Hovis and sister and brother-in-law Gloria and Wayne Blackburn.Memorial services for William Frank Hovis Jr. were held on Monday, Jan. 11, 2016, at the Colyer Funeral Home Chapel with John Hovis officiating.
