The Wyoming Highway Patrol has provided more details about a car vs. semi crash that took place east of Lovell on Wednesday, March 6.
Trooper Crosby Ralston said the crash was called in at 1:51 p.m. and involved a pair of GK Construction haul trucks and a Toyota Corolla.
Ralston said, according to his investigation, a GK truck was stopped at the stop sign on Wyoming Highway 37 where the road intersects with U.S. Highway 14A while a second GK truck was turning onto Highway 37 from 14A, coming from the east.
The Toyota was heading south on 37 and approaching the stopped truck at a high rate of speed, Ralston said, around 65 to 70 miles per hour. When the driver realized she was not going to be able to stop, he said, she applied the brakes and swerved left, missing the stopped truck temporarily. As she did so, she saw the turning truck coming at her, swerved back to the right and struck the parked truck, rebounding toward the turning truck, which was pulling off the road due to the impending crash.
Ralston said the front of the Toyota struck the parked truck, and the rear of the car impacted with the turning truck.
The driver exited the car, the trooper said, and walked about a quarter mile toward American Colloid/CETCO before contact was made by law enforcement and she was transported to North Big Horn Hospital.
The driver, 35-year-old Donna Marie Rodriguez, was arrested by the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Department for DUI, open container and failure to report an accident and cited by WHP for speed too fast for conditions, no seat belt in use, failure to maintain a single lane, no proof of insurance and failure to carry a driver’s license.
