Police report: Dog at large results in bite of a juvenile

The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of June 9-15:

June 9: 4:43 p.m. – There was a report that a juvenile male had been bitten by a dog on the back of his thigh on West Eighth Street. Two other kids witnessed the bite, and the officer spoke to the dog owner and took possession of the dog, because it had no rabies vaccination or town tags. The juveniles identified the dog, and it was taken to the pound. The owner was cited for dog at large, no town tags and dangerous and vicious dog.

6:53 p.m. – A caller requested a welfare check on a dog on Idaho Avenue that appeared underweight and was tied up in the sun with no shade. The officer responded, and the puppy checked out OK. The owner said he had barely put the dog outside in the location.

8:23 p.m. – A maintenance worker from the Lovell Apartments on Montana Avenue called because a tenant had parked his vehicle on the lawn. The officer attempted to contact the owner of the vehicle, but he refused to speak to the officer, so the maintenance worker called and had the vehicle towed off the property.

June 10: 6:55 p.m. – Officers were called to a civil dispute on Nevada Avenue between a male and female who had broken up and were having a verbal argument. One party was accusing the other of taking some of their clothing. Both individuals wanted to file criminal trespassing orders barring the other from their properties.

9:51 p.m. – An individual requested a child welfare check on Nevada Avenue. An officer went to the residence and contacted the adult male of the home. The male refused to let the officer into the residence but allowed the child to come outside. The child appeared OK, and the adult male claimed that DFS had already checked the conditions of the home.

June 11: 8:09 a.m. – A caller reported that a dog at large was acting aggressively toward him and tried to bite him on Nevada Avenue. Officers observed video footage and showed the footage to the dog’s owner. The owner was issued a citation for dangerous and vicious dog. The owner later took the dog to be euthanized, and the citation was dropped. 

11:09 a.m. – A call came in claiming that a dog had been left in a vehicle for nearly two hours on East Main Street. When the officer arrived, the vehicle was no longer at the reported location.

2:04 p.m. – A call came into the police station that an individual was harassing tenants of the Alpine Apartments on Nevada Avenue. An officer responded, and the male was no longer at the location. The owner of the apartments contacted the male and advised him that he no longer lived there and had no reason to be on the property.

9:46 p.m. – A caller reported that a group of kids playing basketball on Carmon Avenue were being too loud. The officer sat at the location and didn’t hear any exceedingly loud behavior but informed the kids that they had received a noise complaint. The juveniles agreed to keep the volume down.

June 12: 12:00 p.m. – A neighbor called to report that two vehicles had been parked illegally for more than a year on Lincoln Avenue. The officer contacted the owner of the vehicles who agreed to take care of removing them from the area.

June 13: 10:50 a.m. – A lady called in to report that her neighbor’s trash was blowing around the neighborhood, and they were playing loud music. When the officer arrived, there were no signs of garbage. He made the resident aware of the complaint and advised them to make sure the garbage lid was closed on the street.

June 14: 1:29 p.m. – Officers were called to the Shoshone Bar and Grill after a report that there were minors in the bar. The officer responded, and the minor was accompanied by their parents. The bar owner stated that it was OK if they were with their parents. The officer told the parents that the minor can’t be at the location after 10 p.m. The minor was not drinking and was taken home.

9:33 p.m. – A woman came into the police station after receiving a phone call that she needed to pay a fine for her sister’s failure to appear warrant as her emergency contact. The caller tried to get the woman to go to an ATM as she remained on the line and became upset when she informed them she was walking into the police station and hung up. The police identified it as a scam.

7:22 p.m. – A female came into the police department requesting to speak to an officer in reference to her daughter’s behavior, claiming that DFS told her to come in and report when the daughter was throwing a fit because she was not allowed to touch her. The officer documented the incident and told the woman to talk to DFS about how law enforcement was to handle future issues.

Note: The Lovell Police Department received nine separate calls about dogs at large at multiple locations and performed eight traffic stops throughout the week.
