Summer programs at Bighorn Canyon continue

It’s mid-summer, and there are plenty of programs being offered at the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area. The following programs can be enjoyed on the south district of the park near Lovell:

Ranch Tours: July 19 and August 2 – Join VIP Mike Bridgeman and VIP Steve Kinney for tours of the Lockhart Ranch. Tours will start at 11 a.m. and go until 3 p.m., depending on the weather.  

Ranger Programs: August 2 – Join MSU intern Emily Clark on a guided walk at Sullivan’s Knob trail. The walk will start at 9 a.m. Learn more about the wildlife, birds and plants along the trail.

August 16 – Join Ranger Christy Fleming and the University of Wyoming Extension office for a Wyoming Walks tour of Hillsboro. Meet at the Lovell Visitor Center at 8 a.m. and car caravan to Hillsboro.

August 30 – Join Ranger Fleming and the Lovell Kane Area Museum for a historic place and people of Bighorn Canyon bus tour. Tickets for the bus tour can be purchased through the Lovell-Kane Area Museum.

Geology: Look for pop-up geology programs at Devil Canyon by VIP geologist Greg Jones throughout the summer.

August 1 – Join VIP Jones at 10 a.m. at Barry’s Landing to explore the fossil wall.

August 8 – Join VIP Jones at 9 a.m. at Horseshoe Bend for a stroll through geologic time.

August 15 – Join VIP Jones at 4 p.m. at Devil Canyon Overlook to learn about the faults and bends that shaped Big Horn Canyon.

August 22 – Join VIP Jones in the Cal S. Taggart Visitor Center between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. to play the Fossil Match Game.

Artist In Residence: Visitors are once again able to enjoy AIR Mike Hansen’s outdoor collection in the Bighorn Canyon Taggart Visitor Center. The painting exhibit will remain in the gallery through the summer.
