Police report: Police investigate alleged food pocket stuffing at Maverik

The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of January 19-25:

January 19: 6:46 p.m. – A caller on West Seventh Street reported that she was working on a fence in her yard, but the neighbor’s dogs kept coming to the fence barking, being aggressive and trying to nip at her through the fence. She also said the dogs bark non-stop. Lovell Police have attempted to contact the neighbor about the dogs but has so far been unsuccessful.

January 20: 3:57 a.m. – A caller on Oregon Avenue claimed that someone was in her house under a sheet. An officer responded and found no one in the home except the reporting party.

January 21: 4:42 p.m. – A caller said he was being harassed by text messages, reporting receiving messages from restricted numbers. An officer advised the caller to block the numbers or get a new number himself.

5:25 p.m. – A caller reported that her mother owed $800 to an individual in a case of theft, however the alleged victim has not reported the incident.

June 23: 9:42 a.m. – A caller on Oregon Avenue alleged that her neighbor had broken a flower planter in her backyard, telling police that she just wanted to document the incident.

2:40 p.m. – A caller reported receiving a very strange piece of mail. She said she moved to Lovell during the fall and said she received a letter by mail, with no return address and no signature stating simply, “Hello, you now live in Lovell.”

7:44 p.m. – A caller reported a collision at Maverik but had driven home before reporting the incident, which is under investigation.

January 24: 12:14 p.m. -- A manager at Maverik reported that a male customer continually comes into the store and takes three food items, puts two in his pocket and scans just one using the self-checkout. An officer reviewed video and spoke with the alleged thief, who said he pushed the three-item button and believed it had properly recorded the three items. The manager said she would speak to the individual about reimbursement and ceasing the activity, which she said has taken pace more than just on Saturday.

7:38 p.m. – A neighbor on Nevada Avenue reported seeing lights on in an unoccupied house and was concerned that someone was in the home. Someone was, but it was a relative of the man who had recently passed away, an officer discovered.

9:13 p.m. – The same neighbor reported someone walking around the house in the above call with a flashlight. It was a person looking for the deceased person’s cat.

January 25: 5:06 p.m. – A caller asked for a welfare check for a person on Legacy Court, saying the individual had missed work and couldn’t be reached by cell phone. An officer responded and made contact with the person’s mother, who said she was just fine.

Note: The above calls were received by the Lovell Police Department. Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney.
