Sheriff report: Deputies investigate scam calls

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office received the following calls for the week of January 19-25:

January 20: 11:02 a.m. – A caller reported a black Dodge pickup with a grey flatbed trailer swerving all over the road heading west out of Lovell. The Wyoming Highway Patrol was notified as deputies were out of position.

January 21: 8:35 a.m. – The school resource officer helped Lovell Animal Control pick up some loose dogs at Lovell Elementary School.

January 22: 7:35 a.m. – Several cows were reported on or near the highway on U.S. 14A just west of Byron. When a deputy arrived, the owner was putting the cows back in their pasture.

10:06 a.m. – A Cowley resident said she was getting phone calls from random numbers saying she owes money to a credit card company. She said she has no card from the company and knows it’s a scam but wanted to report it as a preventative measure. A deputy called one of the numbers, but the call didn’t go through.

January 23: 11:20 p.m. – Deputies were preparing to help escort Lovell High School’s state champion dance team into town.

January 25: 1:28 p.m. – A residential burglar alarm on Crystal Creek Road southeast of Lovell turned out to be a false alarm.
