Police report: Mountain lion reported in Lovell

The Lovell Police Department received the following calls for the week of February 16-22:

February 16: 5:35 p.m. – A brown and white pregnant cat was reported at the Maverik Country Store in Lovell. It was determined that the cat was microchipped, and police called the microchip company, which identified the owner, who lived between Deaver and Powell. The owner came to Lovell to retrieve the pet.

February 17: 1:33 a.m. – An officer responded to the scene of a reported domestic dispute at the Uptown Apartments on East Main Street, with the caller stating that a male was threatening to shoot himself. The officer determined that the dispute between an adult male and female was verbal, the male was not suicidal and no gun was involved in the dispute.

10:01 p.m. – In a call rolled over from the sheriff’s office, a caller reported seeing a mountain lion, light brown in color, moving up the street on Oregon Avenue. An officer responded and checked the area, including trees, and was unable to locate the lion.

11:07 p.m. – A caller on West Eighth Street reported multiple dogs barking at a neighbor’s house. The owner of the reported barkers said his dogs were inside and the barking must have come from another location.

February 18: 11:11 a.m. – A Cowley police officer brought to the animal control shelter a dog that had been running loose in Cowley. The owner later came to pick up the dog at the shelter.

2:51 p.m. – A man came to the police station to report that he was selling a utility trailer on Facebook Marketplace and received a check from an alleged purchaser that turned out to be fraudulent when he checked at his bank.

4:45 p.m. – A woman called to report that her child was having problems at Lovell Elementary School. The call was referred to the school resource officer.

6:56 p.m. – A caller reported a man walking with a gun in front of the Hyart Theatre. An officer made contact with the man, who said he had broken down near Greybull and had gotten a ride to town, not wanting to leave his rifle, which was unloaded, with the vehicle.

February 19: 6:57 p.m. – A caller reported a suspicious vehicle on Jersey Avenue. An officer responded and found that the car was owned by the relative of a neighbor who was visiting.

February 20: 1:15 p.m. – A caller reported a lost Husky on Park Avenue. The dog soon returned home.

February 22: 12:02 p.m. – A caller reported that a semi on Shoshone Avenue had been running for two hours, but an officer determined that there was no ordinance violation.

1:27 p.m. – An officer checked on a civil dispute at Bair’s Trailer Court. Two individuals were arguing over the sale of some property.

Note: The above calls were received by the Lovell Police Department. Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney.
